I am on my knees begging all of you...

...stop...please stop...with the "nu".

"Nu" anything. Just stop. It's so...I don't know what it is. But there's just something about it, I hate looking at it, seeing it or reading it.

It's so...pretentious and self important and aggrandizing in...some way.

I can't put my finger on it.

I hated it with "nuBSG", but since I was always behind on the episodes, I was never in the forum and rarely had to deal with it.

Please, for my sanity...just stop.

It's so...lame.

Just call it "Star Trek." Any half bred monkey retard will be able to tell if you're referring to the entire franchise, or this film. We already refer to the original series as TOS, the '79 movie is called The Motion Picture, which is often abbreviated to TMP. Why do we have to refer to it any differently than what it's called?
Quoted for fucking truth.

So how would you like us to refer to uh........ the new Star TreK?
TNST?
Umm... by it's title: Star Trek. :vulcan:

Because the original had the same title, but even that has to now be called "TOS" since the entire universe is now called "Star Trek".

There has to be SOME way to identify this movie and make it plain what's being referred to. Also, since this is a whole new timeline or reality, it should be differentiated. I really liked the "nu" idea. Seemed so simple.

What would you suggest... aside from NOTHING?

No, they won't.

There already is difficulty differentiating between Star Trek the series and Star Trek the movie, or no one would be using "nu."

What, you're saying that nu is old?! Actually, I agree. And, wow, you save one letter typing.

What an odd question, seeing as your answer is in the post of mine you quoted. What would you have to be to not understand what one is referring to? You'd be able to tell by context. ie; "I was watching Star Trek last night and couldn't figure out why Kirk's hands were swollen!" I wonder what episode this poster would be referring to?

I think it's clearest if the old universe would be referred to as either Classic Trek or oldTrek (take your pick). There's nothing new (except pocket books) coming out of that universe, anyway. Whereas this universe might spawn more movies, series, you name it. Let's be ready for it; let's be ready for Star Trek.

How can there possibly be any difficulty? Really, give me an example.

Well whatever, you can bitch and moan all you want but I'm pretty sure it's going to remain nuTrek...

I can almost guarantee that nobody under the age of 30 is posting that they're annoyed by using nuTrek...please tell me if I'm wrong.....

You know what? You might be on to something here. Let's hear a few random questions about any oldTrek series. Let's see if people have trouble seeing what universe they're set in. Anybody who's in favor of nuTrek want to try? :D

Are you serious? I did give you one.

The fact that people are differentiating the movie with "nu" is the evidence.

If there were no problem, there would be no "nu."

I did, in multiple posts. It annoys the heck out of me. It sounds campy, corny and it sounds like the one who says it tries much too hard to sound hip and young. It hasn't been trendy in over 15 years. It also reeks too much of Battlestar Galactica (wich is a different show -- entertaining, but different), never mind the fact that it simply seems wrong to rename the new universe instead of the old one.

The book on the old one has closed, the book on the new one has not. If people really need to rename one of the two, choose the closed book to rename; that way neither will suffer for it. New fans don't know nuTrek. They know Star Trek. If you rename the old universe, older fans will still understand you. The other way around, and you lose the new fans.

eventually everyone will just call the new franchaise..Star Trek

they're just in an adjustment phase now

Sorry, Man.
It's NuTrek or maybe nuTrek--or--The Abomination, as far as I'm concerned.
I won't be adjusting my terminology to suit your particular esthetic preferences.
You'll get used to it, in time.
or not.

That's not evidence that people are having difficulty differentiating the two in discussion, thus necessitating the designation "nu." That's just evidence people are using it.

Give me some evidence of some discussion in which you would need to use "nuTrek" to contextualize what you're talking about, because it's really not clear without it and not because the posters are retards.
