Spock and Uhura [SPOILERS]

I thought it was great. I love NUhura.

That goes great with what my brother and I brought up after seeing the movie when we were talking about the new characters and one of us called Cho "NUlu."

It was interesting... unexpected (I never would have thought to do it), but it actually worked fairly well. I am curious as to whether or not the Spock and Uhura in the original timeline ever considered a romantic relationship, or if this was purely an alternate-timeline development (it does seem to be an unlikely thing to have somehow been caused by the destruction of the Kelvin, but with the whole butterfly effect of changes in the timeline, one never knows...).

Looking forward to seeing where it goes in the (potential) sequel.

The butterfly effect has definitely affected things...like Sulu's parent's doing something slightly different such that they produced a child looking more Korean than Japanese, or that Scotty seems to be losing some hair, or that none of the crew we're familiar with looks like the faces we originally knew them as .

I had no problems with it at all.

Nurse Chappel I thought was forced...This movie relationship was one of the best parts of the movie for me. It really grounded a movie that could have become a cgi nightmare. Way to go writers!! I'm so happy with this movie.

I admit, the Spock-Uhura hookup was the only thing in the film I flat-out hated. A single dalliance, maybe driven by Spock's loss, that I could accept. But I saw no real logic (pun intended) in this romance -- what attracted Uhura to him, how the relationship addressed Spock's inner turmoil, none of that. It seemed like something the writers put in simply for the sake of change.

Hotness notwithstanding - you cannot see what would attract Uhura to Spock? Haven't fangirls been rhapsodizing over him for 40 years!?!?!?!? Those who have eyes to see . . . those who have ears to hear . . . those who have the other faculties required to discern the self evident . . . yeeesh!!!

each and every one of them made their characters their own. In fact, I find myself this afternoon having a little trouble visualizing the original actors in those roles. The new crew did that good of a job.

Ok so maybe it's the day after and you're all "aglow"...but let's not get completely crazy here.... I mean trouble picturing the originals in these roles???? LOL LOL

If you still feel that way well then I'd like to have whateva your havin so I can be out of my mind too!

I went into the film spoiler-free and was totally blind-sided by the Spock/Uhura romance. I loved it!

I stumbled across the Spock/Uhura thing a couple of days before seeing the film, but I have to say I absolutely love it. I love the fact that he reassigned her to the ship of her choice!

I envy you. I really wish I hadn't been spoiled in advance. That would have been a great jaw-dropping moment.

The turbolift scene sold it for me. I liked it that Uhura accepted Spock on his own terms, without pressing him to show more emotion than he was capable of. "What do you need?"

It's almost a shame that Nichelle Nichols never got to play a scene like that . . . .

Yeah, this is Uhura as she always should have been - not just the Spock relationship, but the skills, the knowledge.

I love the scene at the ship assignments where Uhura's railing on Spock for putting her on the Farragut and she just finishes the conversation with "No, I'm assigned to the Enterprise" - perfect!

I loved it. I completely and totally wasn't expecting it--and maybe that's part of the reason I loved it. But there was something about it that was so right for the two characters.

I made every effort to go into this film spoiler-free, so I didn't realize they were together until she followed him into the turbolift. I guess I should have picked up on it in the assignment scene, but I simply assumed that she was his star pupil or something like that. I, too, loved the way she said with authority, "No, I'm assigned to the Enterprise." Great line, great delivery and on Spock's part, great acquiescence.

Like so many things about the movie, this was just something that worked.

I thought that scene was hilarious. The audience chuckled when he gave in and assigned her to Enterprise. Hey, I wouldn't have argued!

Like that the unexpected guy gets the girl, but don't like the emotion shown by a Vulcan. OldSpock was a guy who had emotions that ran deep and you got to see a glimpse of them occasionally -- otherwise they were under a mask of nonemotion.

That scene kind of bothered me, cause as officers, especially Spock since he was a graduate, they shouldn't be doing stuff like that in front of everyone right, not very professional, maybe against some kind of regulation?

Agreed! And it seemed unVulcan. Maybe it was the Vulcan Lip Suck.

I'll say this, it's hard to get romance right. We only saw them kiss and touch, we didn't see the romance part. I'll try to hold off judgment. I do think it'll make the next movie difficult.

The romance is for the youngsters? Nah... the Kirk/Orion woman/Uhura in her underwear scene was for the youngsters (not that I minded). The romance between Spock and Uhura has apparently appealed to a much wider base than that, if this thread is any indication.

Absolutely. The favoritism line. And rewatching the film I saw how often they show Uhura's looking at Spock, her reaction to something happening to him. It did NOT start in the turbolift.
