Star Trek 2 ideas

I say bring back the Klingons but not as primary antagonists.
Irks, irritations for our heroes, complicating a bigger issue with their petty rivalry. This could lead to some nice, fun action sequences free from the angst and boredom of Cold War etc.

Instead there should of course, be a bigger more interesting story going on with the Klingons making a nice, nostalgiac and hopefully awesome cameo.

(Loved the Battle-Cruisers during the Kobayashi Maru sequence except Uhura referred to them as Warbirds???)

Tho I really disliked this new film, I hope that maybe with all of the popularity and financial success they've bought enough credibility to hire a real writer for the sequel. One who injects something like a message between all of the fancy explosions and space battles.

I also hope they don't feel obligated to be safe with these re-imagined characters. There's no reason Sulu can't die, or Bones can't turn traitor, or...whatever. Anything can happen. I hope they remember that in the sequel.

I don't know why, but the number one thing I want to see in the next Star Trek movie is an armada of Gorns. I'd love to see what a makeup/visual effects crew would do with the Gorns on a 100 million budget.

And if you want to make the next Trek 3D, no story element would be more appropriate or awesome than using the Tholians.

How about introducing Kor? Then they can have a reoccuring Klingon villian? I do like the Corbomite idea mentioned earlier.

I think they need to stay away from time travel and the Khan model.

I submit:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Nero

If we bring Nero back, which I am NOT opposed to since he just wasn't convincing as a villian, I'd like it to explore the areas in how he was a good man some time ago. Any villain can say they're angry because they lost someone who meant a lot to them, but how do you make them more than that? That is after all what Eric Bana and everyone else tried to do with his character.

The problem with the Tholians is that Enterprise buggered up canon. You can't now have Starfleet engaging with the Tholians for the first time.

It's a shame that events such as the Khitomar massacre and massacre on Setlik III are so far ahead in the established Trek timeline as they're something I'd really like to see done on the big screen.

They need a great antagonist that comes to challenge Kirk and his crew and in the process defines them. Nero sort of played this role in Star Trek,
but he died in the end so there is no chance of bringing him back.

I like the Klingon's for that role, and personally believe they are due for a bit of an overhaul in terms of appearance and personality. In terms of appearance, they could use CGI and better makeup to make them look more alien. I always imagined the Klingons being more animalistic in nature, ruthless barbarians in outer-space that set entire worlds on fire after looting them for all of their valuables. You could draw Kirk and crew into this by having them kill someone he cares about or something like that, setting up his hatred for the Klingons that so well defined him in ToS.

The Federation-Klingon War could be absolutely epic if done right! You could have the Klingons assaulting Federation planets, completely obliterating them from orbit, etc, etc. There are a number of possible action sequences that would be great.

Here's where JJ could have real comic fun with the Base.

Remember when the Robo Cob is chasing little Jimmy in the Vette? He pulls up along side the Young Lad and says, "Citizen! Pull over!"

Well didn't that immediately make me think of Starship Troopers!!!

Suppose JJ's Federation, in a bow to Heinlein, is a world in which, on United Earth, once you're 18, to get the Franchise, you have to do.....

Federation Service!!!!

You can join the teacher corps, test space suits on Pluto.....

Join Starfleet.....

.....OR JOIN THE MOBILE INFANTRY!!!!

What if JJ's alternate timeline, in the wake of the twin traumas of the Earth Romulan war and the destruction wrought by Nero's vessel upon the hapless Kelvin, is a lot more like Heinleins' society? (Only it's not, of course, witness the hapless, itinerant Kirk wandering around Riverside stealing hubcaps for several years before Pike has his Come to Jesus conversation with him).

The point is, when you come of age in that time period-you have to have something to do with your life besides join Starfleet like Ensign Cupcake did.

There's always the Army.

That would set the table for a lot of set-piece action for the Klingons. Plus-POWERSUITS!
