Did anyone else burst out laughing at Eric Bana's delivery of that line. (in a good way)

Nero says it with the tone you would expect someone at a company picnic to introduce themselves, "Hey Christopher! I'm Nero. I work in accounting."

I don't know, I just loved that delivery. For some reason it just stuck out to me.

Totally out of character and shouldn't have made it into the movie.

I loved how he delivered that line. It was like he was talking to a child.

I liked it. It was one of the most memorable lines in the movie because of the way it was delivered.

i too noticed it but thought it seemed out of place. i think "greeting pike" or earthling but "hi christopher" sounded to informal like something you'd say to someone at happy hour. i think the romulans sounded a bit too non-alien as if they were NY tuff guys with their overcoats.

Yeah, that was one of the few things that made me laugh...that wasn't supposed to make me laugh.

    Bana was pretty lame sometimes.

He kind of reminded me of Ben Linus of Lost...only Linus would have made the line scary. :p Maybe Michael Emerson should have been Nero?

I don't think it was out of character at all. He was mocking pike by not giving him military courtesy and using Pike's first name instead of title.

One of the highlights of the movie.

Yeah, that was the point of it.

    EXTREME condescension

    I thought it kinda worked.

I sort of felt the same way. He was talking down to someone who he felt was inferior. After all, If i had a bi bad as ship from the future id feel pretty superior as well .It was a great line and made me chuckle a little

That's it! I was trying to pin down how he was coming across. Yes, he was talking to Pike like he was a child.

I loved it for loads of reasons. One of them is this, although, I can't explain it a better way: it seemed a modern delivery of a villainous line. Part of me was thinking: Romulans don't talk that way, but as soon as I'd thought it, I'd let got of the thought because I thought the delievery was great. It represented a lot of what I loved about this film: orginal Star Trek but thoroughly contemporary.

Romulans don't talk that way, but he was talking to a human.

I didn't get the sense that he was talking down to anyone. I thought he was just being cute.

That was my sense, too. Cute, but knowing. I was really worried for Pike. In fact I spent the whole film worrying about Pike! Turns out his fate here seems a little improved on the Prime line outcome for him (although I guess it could still happen.)

Considering that none of us has ever seen Nero before, please explain how Bana's delivery is out of character?

Exactly what I wanted to say!

After 25 years of waiting for Spock and looking for revenge, and finally finding the Enterprise which could lead you to Spock, would you follow proper protocol or would you be a smart ass and go with the 'Hi Christopher..."

Exactly - I agree that it was a great delivery of the line and it definitely stuck out for me. It was the condescending, sinister greeting of the guy who has complete control of you and is about to shove a slug down your throat to make you talk haha
