YES, and more: As a Romulan, he might be significantly older than Pike or any other human he would come across, for that matter. And, as you mentioned, he had 25 years to sit and wait. I'm a bit concerned about what he was doing in that time (like, does it have anything to do with why the Klingons have "warbirds") but I'll bet a good part of it was spent researching the command crew of the NCC-1701 - maybe, although not necessarily for the validity of what I'm putting forward, even including holodeck time. He spoke to Pike like that because he felt like he knew him.It fit perfectly.
He wasn't a military man. He wasn't on a military vessel. He had no military training. He was just a pissed-off miner who's had over twenty-five years to stew. To him it was more of a casual phone call than an attempt to open talks with an enemy vessel... and that's exactly how it came across.
Exactly. He's just a laborer who operates heavy equipment, not a military officer.I figured this line and the way it was delivered was indicative of Nero's Blue-Collar mining background and that he was not accustomed to having discussions in a formal manner.
Did anyone else burst out laughing at Eric Bana's delivery of that line. (in a good way)
Nero says it with the tone you would expect someone at a company picnic to introduce themselves, "Hey Christopher! I'm Nero. I work in accounting."
I don't know, I just loved that delivery. For some reason it just stuck out to me.
I was just about to add that. His delivery does remind me of Heath Ledger's Joker. When I first heard the line for some reason I thought of the Joker in Dark Knight.

Thirded. Specifically, the scene in the hospital when the Joker is dressed up as a nurse and sits down next to Harvey Dent.
"Hiiii"
Totally out of character and shouldn't have made it into the movie.
"banality". Bana. I ... see what you did there. It has grown on me because it is so picturesquely the "banality of evil".
