Kirk's Orion bed buddy

Liberated ? Has no-one here seen Enterprise ? They're not slaves, they're the ones doing the enslaving.

I thought Orion women during classic Trek were all slaves and under the control of the Orion men. It was interesting to see a liberated green Star Fleet cadet.

I'm a little disappointed with the Orion cadet. If she lost the green skin, her character wouldn't have changed at all. She was far too human and nothing really alien about her.

Personally, I like ENT's version of Orion women and they are liberated in their own way too and still alien.

I thought the same thing. One of the great things about the Vulcans is that even though all they have are those pointy ears, they act so different from any culture on Earth. They are extremely alien in their behavior.

This green chick acted like an ordinary white human girl from California. Not all that alien. But I suppose we can write it off as her being born and raised in North America, thereby behaving like the culture she is in.

Too bad they killed her off, would have liked to have seen her pop up again ;) She was pretty hot... ALTHOUGH I suppose maybe she was not a native born Orion. Or her poppa was a human and she was a half-breed that joined her father on Earth and joined the Academy, which is why she's a tad more human acting. OR she's just been around humans long enough and acts like one more often than not.

The pink lipstick with the green skin was a bit of a change, usually everytime someone is green, so are their lips and fingernails and everything, so that's pretty cool that they let her kind of human up. Plus her undies were definately not starfleet issue ;)

makes nice wallpaper... a little grainy... and those are hugh nacelles... expecially at 1600x900...

What struck me in that whole scene was that I really, really expected that by that era we'd have invented something better than the Marks and Sparks underwired bra to support the nacelles. Like an invisible force field or something. :p

Though, for those of us who know about how irresistible Orion "animal women" are supposed to be, the fact that her roommate was complaining about her bringing guys over all the time has a bit more punch.

I thought all Asian people sit arond an ate rice.

I thought all Americans ate hotdogs and watched American Idol.

I thought all French people were snooty and drank wine.

Oh, that's right, in the real world, people and cultures are diverse and varied.

Orion Bed Girl may have been one of the few Orion Slave women who managed to get off world/was raised off world.

Or could just be from a "class" of Orions that aren't slaves?

The women weren't the slaves according to the Enterprise episode, they were the ones in charge. Perhaps she had other ambitions, like joining Starfleet. Either way, she had big boobs and she was hot.

For awhile the Orion girl was identified as the even more voluminous Diora Baird rather than Rachel Nichols.

Apparently her scenes were cut from the film.

There's a certain appeal to having beautifully wrapped presents to unwrap, so to speak ;), that won't expire even when or if technological or sociological solutions arise that negate the practical need for them.

I have a theory on this. Traditionally, I'd be willing to bet that the male Orions kept their females "barefoot and pregnant" - probably to a greater extent than any culture on Earth ever has, and we can't really blame them. It would be self-defense - they'd have to try to keep them as uneducated and even animal-like as possible, because on the rare occasion when one of them does gain some higher thinking skills, she'd be able to use her advantages to wreak havoc until she was stopped. Probably with a long-range weapon.

By the time of Enterprise, a few of the women had managed to take control of the Consortium by being a little more subtle. But even they would probably want to have the rest of the females kept in the traditional ways, for three reasons: 1. To avoid having to share power with too many others. 2. To avoid having to share power with some who might not grok the subtly necessary to maintain the power base. And 3. To keep the males at least somewhat pacified, since they still need their brawn.

You watch. JJ and the writers will assign an Orion Yeoman to take the place of Janice Rand. Gaila has gotten a great response from teh Fanz. Too bad they killed her off on the Hood.

By the way, you'd think JJ and the ILM team would have thought to take a bow to the old Connie class by using some of the old classic designs for the other cruisers, wouldn't you?

You musta missed Enterprise (NX-01).... it was established there that the women were in charge...

Well, either the ones who served on the Mirror-universe ISS Enterprise were secretly in charge, or only some of them have those weapons-grade pheromones, not all.

The Farragut, actually. And yes, it is a shame. Especially since she seemed like she should be relatively unique, and having another Orion female in Starfleet show up any time soon would be kinda cheap.

I too wish that her "nacelles" had been held up by an invisible force field.:bolian:

It was also established that ENT sucks. When it comes to TOS races... stick with TOS as your reference... I mean, ENT was so shitty regarding even it's OWN continuity, that we saw a freaking KAZON... a VOY race, in one of the final episodes!!! They didn't even TRY to hide that it was a Kazon! LOL.
