Kirk's Orion bed buddy

I thought Orion women during classic Trek were all slaves and under the control of the Orion men. It was interesting to see a liberated green Star Fleet cadet.

At least she was also 'liberated' in another sense; to see someone in the future preach about "I will only have sex after marriage" would be wrong on so many levels. :D

You musta missed Enterprise (NX-01).... it was established there that the women were in charge...

I'm a little disappointed with the Orion cadet. If she lost the green skin, her character wouldn't have changed at all. She was far too human and nothing really alien about her.

Personally, I like ENT's version of Orion women and they are liberated in their own way too and still alien.

Perhaps they aren't a monolithic culture and the worldview of the Orion cadet doesn't stroke with the worldview of other Orion women.

We don't know that much about Orions. Perhaps there are castes or subcultures or d'jarras and the Orion in the film was just very different than the ones in ENT. Also she may very well have "been in charge", she certainly made her own bed choices.

What was her name again?

People not allowed to make choices in the future?

Of course they are, don't be silly. :D

But personally, I'd like to think people in the future are more progressive then that. Especially seeing the influence by other alien cultures who are further along then we; they've been in space a long time and, consequently, should have less social restrictions (Betazoids come to mind).

Too bad they killed her off, would have liked to have seen her pop up again ;) She was pretty hot... ALTHOUGH I suppose maybe she was not a native born Orion. Or her poppa was a human and she was a half-breed that joined her father on Earth and joined the Academy, which is why she's a tad more human acting. OR she's just been around humans long enough and acts like one more often than not.

The pink lipstick with the green skin was a bit of a change, usually everytime someone is green, so are their lips and fingernails and everything, so that's pretty cool that they let her kind of human up. Plus her undies were definately not starfleet issue ;)
