Mission Gamma

Lieutenant Commander

i've been out of the Star Trek reading for a few months and want to get back in but the last thing that i read was the haunted seas anthology which ends with mission gamma book 3 and I can find no mention of when/if the next anthology will appear and also finding it hard to find the next to books for cheaper that £25 each- which quite frankly I am not prepared to pay.

can anyone help please?

The last info we got was that due to poor sales numbers of the first two DS9 post finale omnibuses there are no plans to publish further collections of previous novels at the moment.

thanks. i thought i'd heard that somewhere but been out of the loop for a bit. don't know why they couldn't just release the next 2. i've searched online and in the local book shops and it's hard to find the last 2 singularly. the first 2 no problem but I have them!

I've bought some older Trek books on eBay. Also eBooks are a good way to get Trek books.

I keep checking but can't find the two I need. I don't really have anything to read ebooks on and I believe they can't be printed. is this correct. the only time i really read is when commuting to work.
thanks for the replys though

Try used book stores. *has bought most of his older Trek books that way*

thanks have tried those near by but am going into manchester today and will try the ones in the centre.

In that case, try Forbidden Planet (I have no idea where it is in the city as never been to Manchester) as it might be in there, if not, try a national charity shop chain like Oxfam as I'm sure they'll be one lying around in one f the many bookshops they have.

Unfortunately I had to pay about $19 each for books 3 & 4 after trying local libraries and used book stores. Had to use eBay and Amazon. Seems all sellers know how hard these are to get and price accordingly. Best of luck.

thanks but tried FP yesterday. they have 1 and 2. will keep trying charity shops though.

i've noticed that myself. i just begrudge paying £20 a book when i paid about 10 for These Haunted Seas and don't see why they couldn't re-release the second. i know about the lack of sales etc but it's not very good on pocket books part i don't think

Pocket Books should deliberately release a huge trade paperback reprint that they know, due to disappointing sales on the first two, will be impossible to make money back on their investment?

Even when MMPB "Mission Gamma" books were going for $80+ in the online secondhnd market, I was seeing bricks 'n' mortar bookshops with copies of Books 1 & 2 on their shelves at regular prices, and second hand ones for less. At the time of the release of "These Haunted Seas", IIRC, Books 3 & 4 were still "in print" at Pocket, and they only went out of print because new people, finding the DS9 omnibuses for the first time, exhausted the Pocket warehouse.

Now that demand is for Books 3 & 4 instead, I'm again seeing bookshops with copies on their shelves at regular prices. So keep looking, or try the eBook versions to satisfy your hunger - and then pick up actual copies when you see them at a reasonable price. Remember that Pocket made many more copies of Books 2-4 in MMPB because sales and reviews of MG #1 were so solid. (For a long time, it was only Book 1 that was "hard to find" - partly because there were less copies printed.)

Thanks and I will do. My local shop has just got book 1 & 2 in for the first time in ages. asked if they'd be getting the next two and their not sure but will try. I know that pocket books won't do it as it's not profitable and working for a retail business i know the logic I was just saying it's frustrating is all. I will keep my eyes out. anyway i've stopped reading Trek for a while but I am going to get back into it by reading the new Vanguard and then might finally start the Titan series so should keep me busy for a while.

I'm confused. How could they get in fresh copies of #1 and 2 in mass market paperback (MMPB) when they are out of print? Or do you mean they are stocking the first two trade-size reprint omnibuses of the DS9 Relaunch?

Or are you saying it's a second hand bookshop and people are getting rid of their old MMPBs because they bought the new omnibuses?

It's a small book store but they sometimes get stuff in I don't know where from. they've got 3 of each and have got in quite a bit more ST books than usual. the books don't look read but I know they're out of print so assume their from somewhere else but again don't know where
