Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the movie?

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Yeah I thought he shoulda been in the movie.... but that was before I found out that he was being a dick about it....

Kirkus I think you're right...it must be he was just covering for Shat being an asshole because he couldn't of REALLY mean that being consistnet comment.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

I don't think it would have worked. It would have looked forced. I thought the movie was great.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

"My thinking is that Abrams is trying to still toe a line of being professional and in the universe, as opposed to him just coming out and telling the real and business side of what happened with Shatner"

You hit the nail on the head. I think he wanted Shatner in a limited role/cameo and Shatner wanted more. At that point Abrams was in a no win scenario and tried to put the best spin possible on the situation to protect everyone involved.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

1. No. As is, there would be no point in having older Kirk appear, short of a flashback or hallucination.

2. Older Kirk would not fit in the screen story as presented in the film.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

After seeing the film I don't see how they would have fit Shatner in.

That said there was a scene written for him according to Bob Orci. Just a guess, but I would think that the written scene must involve some type of flash forward meeting between Spock prime and an aged version of Chris Pine's Kirk.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Now that I've seen it, I can definately say (to back up my "Why should Shat be in there comments?") that there was no place for him. Nimoy's Spock served a specific purpose, and it was a purpose that they couldn't have reasonably gotten Shatner in on.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

From his histrionics and media-jerking on the matter, it's obvious to me Shatner was bucking for another payday and more attention.

The movie itself doesn't need Shatner or an old Kirk. He would have been out of place.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

He could have been in the meld scene for a second, but that's about it.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Nimoy wasn't necessary let alone Shat. That last scene should have been on the editing room floor. This was a great Trek film but not a great film.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the movie?

I can't think of a way. Not without a major overhaul.

They'd have to address the little obstacle of Shatner Kirk being dead, and Shatner now looking too old and decrepit to play even pre-Generations Kirk.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

With the new timeline, they can bring Shatner back now. Maybe a plot that takes place in two eras and you can bring back all the surviving TOS members.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Like Starbreaker and someone else from the grading thread said, Shatner could have appeared in the mind meld scene. That wouldn't have felt forced or out of place.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

He could have been in the meld scene for a second, but that's about it.

Great point, he could have been in that. Otherwise.. I love Shatner, LOVE HIM, but I think it would have been an awkward shoehorning to stick him into that storyline while Nimoy was in it as well. One or the other, not both. Both would be too much like that TMP Enterpise-swooning.

But the mind meld, that's a great great point. How do you think it would have gone not to have new-Shat but to have a flashback from a previous film briefly seen in the mind meld?

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Honestly, I don't think the film needed Shatner...as it is while it was lovely to see Nimoy, I do wonder if the film needed him either? It was doing very well on its own well before Nimoy arrive. It was a nice bit of torch bearing but I think we should avoid too many affiliations with past players to let the new guys have mark their own place.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

I don't think it needed Nimoy but I enjoyed him. It was a nice touch of the Generations handover.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

(BTW, for all the complaining some fans did about Shatner not being in the movie, it looks as if the reviews coming out don't even care, nor are they regretting him not being there.)

The movie was much better without Shatner.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

He would have been a distraction in this movie, i think it would have lessened its punch

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

I wish they hadn't put Nimoy in the movie, it certainly didn't need Shatner as well.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Absolutely. At the very least, I think they should have used him for the theme voice-over, instead of Leonard Nimoy. Captain Kirk is dead, but we're dealing with alternate universes and times. Anything was possible.

I wish they hadn't put Nimoy in the movie, it certainly didn't need Shatner as well.

It was a little awkward.

Re: Those who have seen the film:Could they have put Shatner in the mo

Although I was a huge Bring Back Kirk guy, I now think that shoe-horning Shatner into this movie would have cheapened the very powerful and important scenes with Leonard Nimoy.

Trek should have brought Shatner back years ago by making Shatner's The Return a movie when they still could, and they had another chance on Enterprise Season 4 to bring Shatner back but wouldn't spend the money.

But this movie was very special and it simply didn't involve Old Kirk.

I have no idea how Abrams would be able to use him in the next movie if they continue with this cast.
