Where do we stand with Kirk's son in the new continuity? Has he been born yet? Has Kirk met carol? Will they get chance to meet? Project Genesis?

Much has changed. Saavik probably dead now.

What else definitely can't can't happen? I'd imagine all the known adventures happen to other ships and crews and the Enterprise is despatched to a different sector to explore.

How about Sybok? Would Spock's half brother have escaped the apocolypse?

I believe David was born when Kirk was in his late 20s. He turned 50 in TWOK and David was supposed to be in his early 20s if I remember right. And the Kirk in this movie was 25.

This timeline is compromised because Kirk wasn't the captain of the Enterprise till he was in his early 30s and by that time David was born if you go based off of TWOK.

One of the writing duo - Orci, I think - mentioned that Carol Marcus was originally to have a small role in this movie, but was cut because it was running too long (along with Kirk's brother Sam and his Uncle Frank, who is now heard only as a voice in the car scene). "We'll have to save her for the sequel," he said.
