*SPOILERS* If you could change one thing about the film...

Lengthen the emotional scenes. There were some powerful moments in the film, but they were over so fast, and then it was right back to light-hearted action. If there'd been time to develop a serious emotional punch, it might have been the greatest Trek movie ever.

I'd have ended the movie with Kirk NOT the Captain.

Thus making a much greater demand for Trek XII.

-Eliminated product placement
-Given Nero more screen time to flesh out his motivations
-Saved Vulcan
-Made engineering look more like the TOS films, or better yet the Ent-D.

For me it would be fleshing out Nero. Somehow his anger in the Countdown comic felt more real and genuine than it does in this movie. In fact I was kinda surprised Abrams didn't do a better job with that-- usually he's MUCH better at making all his characters three-dimensional.

And I would streamline and simplify the time travel backstory for him and Spock-Prime. As is, it came across as just way too silly and convoluted.

Kind of balancing character, plot, and action a lot better. There was a lot of action, and most of it good. There was also a lot of good character moments, but the plot could have used some work. Nero was not very good (And maybe it's the fact that I don't like Bana as an actor which is clouding my judgement) and could have been fleshed out a lot more.

The car scene from the trailer. Worked in the trailer, don't get me wrong. Doesn't work in the film, imho. It's completely disjointed and unconnected to anything else. Plus it would eliminate that awful, glaring bit of product placement.

Remove the time travel element since it conflicts with previous onscreen canon.

take away the time traveling.

I'm curious how this would work, as the entire premise of the film would unravel without the time travel element.

Well they could have done a total reboot and thrown out all previous Trek entirely, ala BSG. All of the good parts of the movie could have stayed in.

Some fans can't handle a perfectly good in-universe explanatino why everything is different - can you imagine what this place would be like if they'd done a straight 'BSG' reboot?

I'd retreat to TNZ for safety.

Lol, I'm sensing a recurring theme from all our new "ensigns." Did they not have a clue at ALL that time travel would be involved in this movie???

That's what I mean--how could the good parts have stayed without the time travel? The scene at the opening, with George Kirk sacrificing himself to save his crew, the meeting between Spock Prime and young Kirk and the Spock/Sarek conversation in the wake of Amanda's death wouldn't have made any sense without some story element to tie them together. That thread was Nero's incursion into the past. What would you have replaced it with?

A little more story, especially with respect to fleshing out Nero's motivations. And...LESS LENS FLARES. :)

Don't even bother cultcross...

...this one is one the fast track to no-where-land...

And Engineering really did look like it was several times to big to ft into the ship...
