Star Trek Soundtrack reviews? (SPOILERS)

El Chupacabra

OK, I haven't seen the new film, but I would like someone who has to let us have a review of the new soundtrack, whether its any good, and tell us how much we can expect of the TOS fanfare in the picture.

Mods, I've started a seperate thread as this has come up in quite a few posts in the spoiler thread but I think has been missed by those "in the know". Please don't close or merge.

Many thanks.

Sounds great.

I remember just being stunned by the composer's score for "The Incredibles" as I watched the movie for the first time - most strikingly, the sequences on the villain's island refuge.

The track listing is available on the German Amazon site.

They all have fairly cheeky titles (I'll spoiler tag them because they contain clues regarding the plot):
1. Star Trek
2. Nailin' The Kelvin
3. Labor Of Love
4. Hella Bar Talk
5. Enterprising Young Men
6. Nero Sighted
7. Nice To Meld You
8. Run And Shoot Offense
9. Does It Still Mcfly?
10. Nero Death Experience
11. Nero Fiddles, Narada Burns
12. Back From Black
13. That New Car Smell
14. To Boldly Go
15. End Credits

About 95% sure that is phony.

Maybe, maybe not... Giacchino's previous scores have a tendency to have silly names like that. Cues from "Alias" include "Red Hair is Better", "I'm So Promoted", "Oh My God!!!" and "Balboa and Clubber".

The listing for "Mission: Impossible III" had a few like, "Helluvacopter Chase", "Humpy Dumpty Sat on a Wall" and "World's Worst Last Four Minutes to Live"

Have you seen You Only Live Twice? Most of the score on the island is an homage to that, particularly the scene where Mr. Incredible accesses Syndrome's computer.

Just got the soundtrack from I-Tunes. Fantastic stuff! Very percussion based but with some amazing themes. You know how some soundtracks will make you smile at points. This one does it quite a few times. While I don't endorse first hearing a soundtrack out of order, if you are going to do it go directly to 'To Boldly Go' which will jump right into 'End Credits.' Those two will/almost will bring a tear to your eye. 9 minutes of amazingness. Oh how the last cue is absolutely perfect. How could anyone not want this movie to get here already!?!

Well, they're actually 100% genuine.

I listened to the sample of the second to last track on amazon.com.

One thing that always bugged me about TNG was that they trick you with the opening few notes of the original theme (the "fanfare"), but then go into the TMP themesong. If the music we hear on the second to the last track is also the biggest part of the closing credits music, they've got me.

It IS "Star Trek", all over again.

It's a trademark for him to come up with fun track titles.
One person's fun is another person's stupid.

This is a ST score - the track names should describe what the music is for.
Why? Because Star Trek can't be funny? I happen to like Giacchino's wordplays. But even if I didn't, I don't see why the track titles on a Star Trek score have to be descriptive and serious.

Don't you know?

It's because Tulin says so. Grovel and tremble with the rest of us.

Now you're getting me mixed up with Dennis!

It was just my opinion - they seemed juvenile and actually very non-descriptive. I prefer my ST a little more refined and classy. Maybe the kids today want wacky and irreverent. I can't change it so I will just enjoy the soundtrack in the meantime!

Funny because I have ST:TMP playing in the background and that was what I was thinking about when I typed that.

Ok, listened to the soundtrack. Overall I think that it's a good piece of work. However, I find myself only really listening to the last three tracks repeatedly. The rest sounds like a stock movie soundtrack that could be in any picture. I am, though, very pleased to hear both the fanfare and full TOS theme. Just a bit of shame that they wait (presumably) until the end of the picture to use it. I'd like it to be used more often in the inevitable sequel.
