Inspired by Vasquez Rock's excellent thread: Picard's Perfect Mate, I thought I'd poll folks on Riker's top dates.

Other than Deanna Troi, who would have been Will Riker's most suitable partner?

I hope it's okay that I voted not only for one but two perfect partners for Riker (you've set the poll to multiple votes, so I thought it was okay).

I chose Carmen Davila, which we only saw for an incredibly short time, yet I always thought she had a wonderful chemistry with Riker. I don't know if it was simply Jonathan Frakes' acting, but it was obvious how depply saddened he was by her sudden death.

And I also voted for Soren, because there isn't one time when I see The Outcast that I'm not totally mad at how they couldn't be together in the end. It's clear that Riker must have felt much for her, since he risked his whole career when he attempted to rescue her.

I went with Ro Laren. Like the Picard/Vash pairing, I think Riker/Ro pairing had a very compelling dynamic, especially in light of the decisions made by the Thomas Riker character.

No Minuet or fake Future Imperfect Minuet?

(On Edit) Also where is Mistress Beata?

I voted Carmen Davila. That was a tragic death

Your comment intrigued me - the Tom Riker dynamic. I'll have to check out the episode where Will and Picard are talking about Maquis actions on the bridge (possibly Ensign Ro), and I get the impression there that Riker might not necessarily be anti-Maquis.

Do you think Ro suits him better than Troi? Would you have chosen her if Troi had been in the poll? Part of me thinks that she suits one aspect of his personality very well, while Troi seems to suit the aspect of his personality that needs pandering to - the little boy without a mother, I think of it.

Thanks to the people who have voted and commented. I'm interested that Carmen has been mentioned by a couple of people. I think she's an interesting woman in Riker's life because of the chat they have about settling down and raising children.

I am so annoyed that I can't reply more - I've cut my hand quite badly and it's hampering my typing something silly!

Very good questions! :) The honest answer is that if I'd have given the poll more thought they would probably have come to mind. Thanks for reminding me. :)

I actually didn't vote for anyone since I don't see Riker with anyone besides Troi. He had a few flings, and some of them could have been fairly compatable. But there has never really been a possibility that he would settle down with anyone but Troi.

I'm not sure which way I would have voted if Troi had been an option. I agree with your assessment of the pairings. Both pairings have interesting dynamics.

Ouch! :( Take care of that hand.

Multiple votes are welcome!

Your reply surprised me. Not because I don't agree with you. I think Riker and Soren were interesting for loads of reasons. I'm just pleased to see that it isn't just me who thinks so. :)

Thomas Riker. ;)

Hush, don't tease. :p

I voted for Ro Laren. They definitely had some chemistry in Conundrum and I even felt in her last scene in Preemptive Strike there was a little something too. The look he gives her before she beams off the shuttle. Having said all that though I definitely would have picked Troi if she was on the list. I always enjoyed their scenes together and I'm glad they finally got married in Nemesis.

The one pairing that just didn't work for me was him and Beverly in The Host, even though it was someone else in his body, it just didn't seem right. She even says "I think of him as a brother."

i went with Ro, so did most others by the looks of it. Her and Riker had a nice chemistry, even when they were at each others throats. They are both strong willed people, i gues thats what makes them suitable.
