Will Riker's Perfect Partner

Other than Deanna Troi - Riker's Perfect Partner?

I voted for Brenna O'Dell. She was strong but the only man who could match her was Will. I guess I picked her because I am warm for her form! Ro Laren would be my second choice. -- RR

I voted Ro because of a fanfic I read where Thomas Riker ends up falling in love with Ro. If his duplicate could fall for her... then why not the real Riker?

What's the story called, K-Star? I'd like to read it.

It's interesting to see how many people have voted for Ro. I wonder if the turn out would have been different if I'd remembered to include Minuet and Beata in the poll.

I picked Ro Laren because she is a rebelious bad girl, and Will can be so straight laced, but also sooo weak when it comes to the ladies

I went with Ro Laren -- there was a palpable chemistry between the two of them. Look at "Conundrum": Riker may have been chewing her out (and she was certainly giving him enough attitude right back), but you just knew that behind all that hostility, they wanted to jump each other's bones... and sure enough, when they all lose their memories later, that's just what happens!

I also liked his relationship with Soren. It was interesting to see it develop from a friendship into love, all the while with Riker teaching her/it what it means to be a sexual being in a romantic relationship. It would have been nice if the producers had had the guts to cast a male in the role of the sexless alien (although, from a scientific point-of-view, an androgynous humanoid looking more like a female is probably more plausible), or at least make the actress up to look a bit less feminine, but I think the concept was an interesting one regardless. And yeah, it was obvious by Will's actions at the end just how much Soren meant to him, so it was rather sad to see her/it reject him after being "re-educated".

Jadzia Dax.

She wasn't in the poll, but I can totally see where you're coming from. Is it Defiant when Dax seems pleased to hear that he's on board? And I think there's a TNG episode (can't recall which one it is, late season 7, I think) where Riker is contacts DS9 and mentions Dax?

Someone remind me, my memory is rubbish!

Daneel, I really enjoyed reading your post, especially the comments about Soren. I wish that they'd cast a male actor, too, and I know I've read comments by Frakes where he says that was his wish as well. I did wonder if it would have changed the perception of his character if Soren had been more masculine-looking. Riker is often seen as a ladies man and suddenly he's kissing what looks like a bloke.

Well, I'm a big Riker/Troi fan, so I really can't see beyond that pairing.

I did vote for Ro though. I really liked her and thought she and Riker had great chemistry (second to Deanna ;)).

 Thanks for voting. I didn't put in Deanna because I thought most folks would vote for her and I wanted to see who might be a popular match if she weren't in the picture. I kinda like Riker/Troi, too, by the way.

I have to agree, too. Casting a man in the role of Soren would have made the episode feel more gutsy. I really appreciate the whole point of the episode (which is the very reason why I consider it one of my favorites), but casting a female actress was kind of a retentive move by the producers. Granted, the story works nonetheless, but I think it would have worked even better if it challenged the viewer's perceptions a little more. And I'm so glad Jonathan Frakes seems to agree with that assessment. Makes me respect his artistic integrity even more. :techman:

Commander Shelby, baby! Nothing says "Punch It!" like the awesome career coupling of Captain Riker and Commander Shelby. They would have won the Dominion War in three weeks... ;) :techman:

ETA: And they look hellish together, too.

 Yeah, they do look weird together. It was her hair and his height, I think. But, I always loved her hard-as-nails attitude. And, together these two took down the freakin' Borg lead by Jean-Luc Picard. I would be surprised if Riker hadn't asked her to be his XO on the Titan...

I think she became a captain and was referenced in DS9. By the time of Titan, she was probably the head of Starfleet.
