Ashes to Ashes Series 2

What did you think of it?

I thought it was a vast improvement on last week, and pretty much on season 1 too (which had its moments, but was pretty arse for the most part). Can't quite put my finger on exactly why but I think it's because, just like Alex said in the episode, we have our Gene back. He's been a bit... off kilter since Ashes' first outing imho.

And, of course, he was a total cock last week but clearly that was by design.

Dare I say it, that strikes me as decent writing for that character (having the audience mirror Drake's feelings about him).

^I seem to enjoy it more than you anyway, but I thought they had a lot of strong character moments. I think they showed what Gene actually thinks of Ray with the "Since when do you call me Gene?" and "It's Guv here." He clearly didn't like Ray being that familiar with him.
It also seems like Alex is actually forgetting that this isn't "real" so she may become a likeable character soon.

I've always liked it
Me too, I don't quite like it as much as Life on Mars, but I do like it. I do have to admit Alex does grate on me from time to time, and it did seem to get up its own arse from time to time in the first series, but it's a decent show.

My mate Ric (who is a fuck site more cynical about telly than I am, despite being a Stargate fan) admitted that this week's episode was "almost good" (narky prick). Which is quite a turnaround for him. Almost every text he's sent me fore the past fortnight has opened with the phrase "Fuck Ashes to Ashes" (usually leading into "and fuck its fans").

I wish he posted here. He'd make me look positively likable in comparison.

Tell him fuck Sonic, and fuck its fans... (It is that Ric you're talking about, isn't it?)
I'm kinda hoping we see Ray get a beating from Gene at some point this series, he seems to need it.

It's never a good idea to tell your mates where you post. Anonymity is a wonderful thing.

That was pretty decent actually. I hope they keep this up.

Call me shallow, but I almost punched the air when
Doctor Handshake got a urinal to the face.

Anyone else getting the impression that they might at least hint at going down the alternate universe/parallel dimension path?
So Jim Steele actually liked an ep? That means I'm going to think it's fucking awesome.

Enjoyable episode, loved the Masons bit, especially the Ray/Gene interactions. Knew she'd call the baby Eileen the moment Gene started singing it

The only thing that is starting to annoy me is the repetition (which was what annoyed me with LOM s2 as well) and I wish Ray wouldn't reset at the beginning of every episode. I swear I'm getting somewhat tired of the I hate gypos/blacks/gays/women etc etc etc followed by an 'you're ok by me' by the end of the episode. I know this happens a lot in TV, just bugs me with Ray because they've done it so many times!

I'm glad they're implying it isn't just in her head anymore.

i enjoyed it. i do agree, this series is getting better. it was a little too much like self-parody last time, like Graham's admitted.

i was interested that Hunt's trying to clean up the Met...

Just watched the second episode and I think it had the greatest soundtrack I've heard in a while. The 80s... go figure.

Anyone else seen the third ep yet? I really liked it, it was pretty obvious who the bad guy was but it was well done nonetheless and we had the Gene Genie on fine form! Also gotta love the Morph cameo ;)

It's definitely building up a head of steam now. At the end (I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it) I turned to the OH and said "Gene's going to get him" and he agreed.

What's not to love about a Morph cameo?
Yeah, I thought it was obvious who it was too, but seems to be pushing forward with stronger stories now.
I just hope it's not like the second series of Life on Mars, which pushed the mystery then kinda fizzled towards the end.
