Holy Sh*t!! Altman LIKES it!!

How about B. Altman..? What's the opinon there?? I heard they are carrying all of the clothing for the new movie....

^^^Emphasis on "was", Cakes! There is no more Star Trek except for the one that opens in theatres next week. And that is just like the time when there was no more Star Trek with Kirk and Spock in it some 15 years ago, when there was only DS9 and VGR and half-assed TNG movies. We're starting over here. And that's a good thing because I maintain that there is actually a lot of goodwill for Star Trek out there, but just the original. See, my goodwill for Star Wars for example only extends to the original films and characters. A lot of people's goodwill for The X Files meant "X Files with Mulder and Scully in it". Etcetera.

I thought it was Robert Altman at first. Now that would be quite the endorsement!

Even the dead love the new Star Trek!

Anyway, I remember reading Altman's opinion pieces at the end of each issue of Cinescape. He struck me as obnoxious, full of himself, stubborn, and someone who would never admit he was wrong... so basically, your typical Trek fan. ;)

Actually, I found his articles usually well-written and entertaining, even when I didn't agree with him completely. There were times, however, when he seemed to go too strongly on the offensive, implying that people who liked things that he didn't were obviously wrong somehow, that their opinions didn't matter. And he had what struck me as an irrational hatred of both Kate Mulgrew and Captain Janeway -- yeah, I know he wasn't the only one, but he took it to extremes, IMO. But he clearly was very passionate about TOS (amongst other things), so I take this as a positive sign.

Yeah.. I feel exactly the same way, but the one thing I respect is that at that time you could write to him and he would actually respond. It was really interesting to get to have that kind of one on one.. This was obviously before he went Hollywood!! (before he made Free Enterprise)

I'm with the floury, eggy one above.

I have said since the dark days of VOY season 7 and INS and NEM that I would rather have NO Trek than ShitTrek.

Quite frankly, I am perplexed by the people who would rather have crappy product, so long as it's feeding their addiciton.

I guess that's the answer.

Not everyone thought that it was crappy. I am amazed at how many VOY fans there were. I'm not, but I liked INS.

Anyone can have NO Trek any time they want.

Even now.

Or they can have all of it, right back to the beginning and all the way to the end.

Even now.

That's the beauty of it. :)

He posts on this board?!?!?

I have read Mark Altman's reviews before, several of them actually, saw Free Enterprise and read the first book he put out years ago (I have no idea if he wrote another one) that gave reviews for each Trek episode and movie. But I haven't read anything of his in the last recent few years.

I remember him being a huge TOS fan, basically occupying almost an elitist mentality, you know, Trek ended with TMP back in 1979 and that's that. Altman liking ST V and hating on other Treks doesn't surprise me. He always came across as a guy that would live out on the fringe with his opinions just to be different or even simply to cause controversey and piss off as many people as he could.

Look at me, I like Star Trek V, I see something there that you don't. Sybock was a badass character, you just can't tune into in his greatness because you watch too much TNG. I'm an elitist with far out standards that don't make sense and you're an idiot.

OK that was generalizing, but that's basically the way the dude comes across. And ofcourse, turning around and dumping on other widely popular Trek engines such as TNG, ST IV TVH, or ST: FC.

In the end, whether Mark Altman likes the movie or not shouldn't alter our enjoyment of the film.
