I've loved Star Wars as long as I can remember and didn't get really into Star Trek until, um, last week (*is ashamed*), but that's simply because I was introduced to SW as a child whereas whenever ST came on TV my parents went "ew!" and changed the channel (yeah I dunno). So with that, here's my take:
My experience is that Star Wars is more acceptable. somehow. like, the general public has this idea that to be a Star Trek fan you have to go totally all out and go to cons and learn Vulcan, whereas while there are Star Wars nutcases (I say this endearingly), you can also just like the movies. in an ordinary way. It's just gotten more mainstream.
I think this might have something to do with the fact that SW is such a... canon piece? I mean, it absolutely changed cinema, and there's kind of an idea that you have to see Star Wars in order to be a functioning adult. So I think there's simply more exposure, too. Whereas Star Trek has always been more cult...
also, it is much easier to watch all of Star Wars than to watch all of Star Trek.
Star Trek has Wesley.
This has never struck me as a good thing. Actually the fact that the first couple of episodes I saw were Wesley-centric kinda turned me off for a while...
'Star Wars' is samurai knights in space, whereas 'Star Trek' is a space western. I guess knights beat cowboys...
but cowboys have guns!
Star Wars has the E-woks

Ewoks
Ewoks
Ewoks
I believe you have it upon a key factor in the suckage of RotJ.

I think there was some suit pressure to put in the e-woks as TESB was so dark. The frustrating thing about it is that you have these incredibly intense epic scenes involving Luke and Vader and then it cuts to the E-woks.

ooohhhh didn't know that. but yes. effing teddy bears.
random fact about grace: I hate ewoks with fiery fiery passion.
the only joy I get from ewoks is that during my frequent "original original trilogy"-watching-drinking-marathons, I am usually drunk enough by RotJ that I just swear loudly at the ewoks and then forget about them when they aren't onscreen.
I heard the same rumers, but didn't george lucas have total control over JEDI? I didn't think the ''suits'' over at FOX had any say in what he did?I think there was some suit pressure to put in the e-woks as TESB was so dark. From the rumors I've heard, the Ewoks were originally supposed to be Wookiees...
Star Wars has R2D2.
Star Trek has Data.
Star Wars has Luke.
Star Trek has Wesley.
Star Wars has Obi Wan.
Star Trek has Kai Winn.
Star Wars has Han Solo.
Star Trek has The Nagus.
Star Wars' royalty are Queen Amidala and Princess Leia.
Star Trek's royalty are the Borg Queen and Princess Fishstick.
Also:
Star Wars has a huge scope, massive budget, epic ideas and killer production design.
Star Trek has a piddly little scope that pretends to be epic, a mediocre budget and (sometimes) little morality plays. And its main characters all dress like dorks.*
*(Fortunately, it looks like a lot of this will change with Trek XI.)
That's true. We should always remember who our real enemies are.Right now in the arena of media hype both Trek and Wars are playing second fiddle to a group of adolescent, emo vampires that sparkle.![]()
^I hope you realize that failing at the "show, don't tell" rule is bad thing.
WOW! I feel sorry for the poor ewok that ever comes near you!

They have the stun setting in Star Wars, too, BTW.
People love Star Wars more because Star War is wham, bam, thank you ma'am/man, whereas Star Trek wants to cuddle and talk about how you feel.
Was this picture alterd in any way?(besides the obvious) I mean look at those EYES!They have the stun setting in Star Wars, too, BTW.
As for ewoks...![]()
