Why do people love''WARS'' more then''TREK''?

As a whole - in terms of actual screen time - there's a lot more bad "Trek" out there than there is bad "Wars".

Star Wars has many people with British accents, and we Americans generally have an inferiority complex toward the English, our betters. Star Trek did have the egg-headed guy who sounded like Shakespeare, but he was supposed to be French, and you can see how confusing all that got for the average movie goer. Star Wars also had almost no racial minorities, and that made its universe a happier and less scary place for audiences terrified of or uncomfortable about diversity in their own universe. And while Nichelle Nichols is much better looking than Carrie Fisher, the latter got much better lines.

Why in god's name do the VAST majority of the viewing public love STAR WARS far more then TREK? I mean what the HELL? is it because ''WARS'' is just simpeler to understand? (good V evil) where as TREK makes you THINK? can somebody PLEASE tell me?:scream:

that's what's what i'm assuming is the case

'Star Wars' is samurai knights in space, whereas 'Star Trek' is a space western. I guess knights beat cowboys...

Star Wars will always have more mainstream appeal because it is all about action and fun. Also you can turn your brain off completely while watching and just mindlessly enjoy it. There are no heavy debates, nothing more than the standard good vs. evil thing going on. (I say all this with love) Also people like lightsabres. There is cutesy type stuff to appeal to kids like R2, Ewoks, etc..

Many of the best Trek episodes actually try and engage your mind and being up real debates about things many people aren't comfortable thinking about. It usually isn't about all out action. It is more about talking and solving specific problems. Also it is a much more character driven show than Star Wars.

Star Trek is better than Star Wars.

Why?

Because Star Trek has more depth and complexity. In chart music you often have a song that is better remembered being trumped by pop crap. Example, Pulps Common People beaten by Simply Red. Which song is remembered more fondly? History will judge Star Trek to be the better show. In fact people in the future will recognize it as the foundation for their civilization.

Now I like Star Wars, although the prequels did nothing for me. Its an enjoyable space opera, its universe is compelling and beautifully conceived. But which show caught my imagination more? Star Trek. To redress the balance

Star Wars has the E-woks
Midichlorans wtf!
Jar Jar Binks
Terrible character development, eg Anakin going from hero to villain in the space of 5 seconds
Stilted dialogue, especially in the prequels
Ewoks
Ewoks
Ewoks
Going back to the originals and changing them with CGI

I like both equally. Each have their strengths and weaknesses as Temis pointed out. The only contests that exist between ST and SW are the ones that the fanboys who only like one and not the other create to instigate tension and arguments.

:techman: What Ziz said.

Right now in the arena of media hype both Trek and Wars are playing second fiddle to a group of adolescent, emo vampires that sparkle.:vulcan:

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

I actually don't think people love "Wars" more than "Trek" at all, but many Star Trek fans have been told that it is so.

Those are VERY good points, that I did not consider before.:vulcan:

actually from first hand experience & IMO i can say you are wrong on this.
i am part of the 501st legion. Mountain Garrison(covering wyoming, colorado, & new mexico), Pikes Peak squad. I got a storm trooper as mt 1st costume, tusken raider as my second, & when i get my clone armor in it will be my 3rd.

http://www.starwars.com/databank/organization/five01st/index.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501st_legion

We do numerious childrens charities & other various things for the local communities & have fun doing it all year long. From watching my fellow garrison members interact & seeing it 1st hand myself, seeing childrens faces light up & them getting all excited is the biggest reward i get from joining the 501st

There is even the rebel legion( http://www.rebellegion.com/ ), which is not as popular as the Imperial's but from what i have seen has alot more popularity than any trekky groups, & alot more popular in the local area's where they do stuff.

Even going to various sci-fi cons(over the past 4 years), the ONLY ones that can keep up with the 501st in having fun are the klingons fans. Some of them even brew their own beers/drinks & the parties they throw at cons is awsome. as for the other trekkies, i have not experienced none of this.

I have greatly enjoyed the various trek series over the years, & my favorites series is deep space 9(love the episode of warf & dax getting married). Star war movies 4,5,6 are good; 1,2 & 3 i enjoyed greatly.

Just strickly speaking of fandom here, from watching the trek fans & SW fans over the years, & personally interacting with them over the past 4 years, i have to say that starwars is viewed by the public in a more positive view than trek fans.

From a technology stand point star trek has done more for inspiriation that starwars has. The creation of the cell phone being the best example i can think of.

From a personal standpoint, the hard core trekkies(how they look & behave in public, im giving klingons an excemption to this) completely turn me off from star trek fandom.
The klingons i can deal with & enjoy hanging out with. There's even several Klingon Houses(House Vampyr being the well known house in denver) i have herd of. the average trekkies are decent as people, the hard core trekkies i stay away from like the plague. I have never seen or herd of hard core trekkies rasieing money for any charities of any kind.

For starwar fans(either rebel or imperial) the average fan is decent. the fans of mild interest to hard core fans join the 501st, the rebel legion or small local rebel groups.
The 501st as a whole is a nonprofit group costumers started in 1997 by costumers who got offically made canon by george lucas. Plus we also do charities on top of having an interest on starwars costumes.

Now from a costuming stand point, starwars costumes are more challangeing todo than any star trek costume. only challangeing starwars costumes i ever seen are the Borg, followed by klingon's.

^There is a 501 legion in Abilene TX, that has some sort of promotion going on at Premiere comic & games right now.

All fine and good, I guess, but what does this have to do with the original topic?

If anything, it seems just like more of Star Wars fans telling Star Trek fans once more they suck.

I don't believe this, this is a Star Trek bbs and star wars fans are putting you down. Stop being so TNG/enlightened/pacifist and get DS9 on their ass! Damn it there are some thing worth defending!!

I'm convinced this entire thread is an elaborate fakepost, this one in particular (oh god please let it be a fakepost).

And...?

It's just apples and oranges, or the pot telling the kettle it's black.

Your Star Wars fan club does charity work, but so do many Star Trek fan clubs (do a google search under "Star Trek fan club charity", and you'll see many instances of such clubs doing things for their local community or nationwide organizations). You'll find that both Star Trek fans and Star Wars fans have made contributions to the greater good.

But from my personal experiences, there really isn't too much difference between Star Wars and Star Trek fans except that Star Wars fans are slightly quicker to tell Star Trek fans they suck or that Star Wars is somehow more cool or socially acceptible than Star Trek--and some Star Trek fans are quick to believe it. I've been to both Star Wars and Star Trek conventions and sometimes the costumes are the only way I can tell the fans apart...
