Anyone else love the catsuits?

Jaespol

Captain
Am I alone in being a fan of the Star Trek catsuits?
I freaking loved the catsuits worn by the Star Trek women...when they had the body that is, Troi never looked very good in a catsuit.
But when done well catsuits were sexay. I thought they were unfairly panned and there's nothing wrong with giving the ladeyz some figure-hugging outfits. So what if they couldn't pee all day...

I particularly liked T'Pol and Kes's catsuits, they looked a lot more comfortable and softer than Seven of Nine's freaky (but still sexy) contraption.

Jennifer Lien in a catsuit? Well, yes!

But seriously, I always thought Trek's catsuits were rather ridiculous. They never really seemed practical to me and were always pretty obviously just an excuse to have the actresses run around in sexy clothes. (Not that I personally think catsuits are all that sexy in the first place. I can think of much much sexier clothes actually.)

Actually, they can be quite practical. You're covered and yet that clothing does not get in the way of your activities. But the material composition is the key. Those velor and Lycra/spandex catsuits you see are uncomfortably hot under intense set lighting. In the future, if a fabric is invented that that is strong, breathable, and conforming without being too snug, it would make catsuits much more practical for a number of occupations (medical, military, technicians who work in cramped places, etc). As for the biological function, a proper zipper design takes care of that. The trick is making a zipper that is not felt by the wearer and yet can separate the fabric for whatever is needed.

The one designed for Seven was a bit over the top... it certainly telegraphed the intent (showing off Ryan's body) more than was necessary. The ones worn by T'Pol were more along what I think Seven should have had. But I would've liked to have seen some utility in the design... a couple of pockets and straps/loops for attaching equipment, or at least a belt.

i never understood the aversion to catsuits. but that's probably because i fancied Col. Deering in Larson's Buck Rogers...

No...

Kes's costumes were consistently crappy. You are creating an unintentional pro-catsuit bias by posting the best combination of hair and outfit for her character.

T'Pol like many characters was at maximum sexiness in the mirror universe.

Seven at least had the opportunity to show what she would look like in a standard uniform during her time travel episode.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I thought 7''O''9 looked sexier in the uniform!

I like Kes in a catsuit in the picture you posted, and I somewhat consistently liked T'Pol's catsuits. But I HATED Seven's catsuits and thought she looked 100% better in uniform, and the same with Troi.

Pre-catsuit era, Kes's costumes weren't great but afterwards she had excellent costumes.

@Cali

I didn't like Seven in a uniform, Voyager's uniforms were not very flattering unlike Troi's uniform which was quite tight and very flattering.

The catsuits were unprofessional, which would be important if they were on duty or supposed to be wearing a uniform of some kind, so no, I didn't like them.

No.

Also it worked both ways.

When it worked the other way the results were, shall we say, unpleasant from my point of view.

In fact, to be serious for a moment, I found that T'Pol was far more interesting as a character in that she didn't wear as tight fitting a catsuit as 7 of 9.

You know why? Because she was showing some skin, and that it is the exact problem with cat-suits, they cover all the skin. Show me some nicely toned stomachs, legs or cleavage and I'll enjoy it, but why would I want to see a beautiful body covered up by a ridiculous looking outfit? :wtf:

I'm sorry to break it to you, but I think you might just be in the majority on that one. ;)

Nah, They never looked practical and very uncomfortable. While I did like the miniskirt uniform of the original, I never bought into the catsuit as a everyday working uniform.

Vons
