MY Enterprise

I'd argue that the Orion Syndicate almost certainly employs non-Orion 'aliens' as well as Orions - especially if you take DS9's depiction of non-Orion agents into consideration.

Theoretically, we could even have had the Suliban cabal working for them...

If it's like the Mafia then any non-Orions would only be outside contractors hired for specific jobs. They would not be part of the Syndicate, as they would not be trusted.

^ Now that's an interesting point Duncan MacLeod. As DS9 has shown non Orions as part of the Orion Syndicate, perhaps the organisation has two parts. The Syndicate is the organisation of non Orions. They get several benefits from being part of a major criminal network, but ultimately are not trusted.
Only Orions themselves are allowed to be part of the inner core of the organisation, and wield all the real power.

Alternatively the organisation may have started out as purely Orion, but had expanded to accept other races by the time of DS9.

I like that.

Only Orions themselves are allowed to be part of the inner core of the organisation, and wield all the real power.

I'd go with this. One might easily argue that 'belonging to the Orion Syndicate' can mean something different than being a member. They do seem to be okay with slavery...

Hell, do stories underlining the "Underworld" of the Pre-Fed times like how if the Suliban ever took jobs from the Romulans to steal trading goods they had to give a cut to the Romulans and a cut to the Syndicate (since the Suliban are on "loan" from the Syndicate to the Romulans). Stuff like this can lead to the Romulans deciding to use their own slave races more (the Remans) so they don't rely on others out of their control too much. Perhaps this escalation could lead to them being more proactive and even potential war (we all know where that would lead...).

But for the best storytelling, I say set ENT early in the timeline, like maybe even the 2100s or 2110s. 2130s or so at the most.

Enterprise A different version

I've always thought about what if for the show, if they did things a little different but don't get me wrong I am a fan of the show but there were failings. Lets start with the name and dropping STAR TREK from the titles for season 1 & 2 was foolish and even though I am not a major cannon whore, it was stupid to use the name Enterprise when they knew it would cause such a stir in the fanbase.

* STAR TREK Odyssey

* NX01 Class

* Different design a little maybe a bit closer to TOS era but not too much. I don't hate the ship they came up with but someone posted a cool drawing in the TREK XI section of a possible design for the ENT in that movie and a smaller version of that would of suited the fans well I think (will try to find it).

* Still Warp 5 engine with same limitations

* Standard torpedoes still and later on upgraded but not Photon or Photonic but more powerful and yellow tinted colour to them

* Pulse Cannons which fire short bursts of energy..later upgraded especially during Romulan War to have a mix of short phase cannons and burst ones

* Hull plating though given basic shield tech for Romulan War to go with hull plating

* Same shuttle and transporter tech

I will post something more on the characters later this post will end up big enough anyway but let me say something for Hoshi cause her skills always bugged me...

Hoshi is not so easy at picking up new languages and uses a database given by the Vulcans plus new software which she modifies over the years that eventually becomes the universal translator. Also while were talking about characters no T'Pol going so less Vulcan though some changes due to her being first Vulcan serving on a confined ship for long periods of time...Also no romance plot with Trip.

Now I came up with a basic 101 episode 5 season show using mainly episodes aired just changes some plot details and order. Also this is just a basic plan so not in great detail can discuss that later...

* No TCW

* No Xindi mission

* Addition of Romulan War

Feel free to call me but I thought a nice silly thread like this would be a nice idea to post plus I have not posted in this Forum section for ages :lol:

All interesting ideas, but I wonder how quickly UPN or other suits would have shot down or would have "suggested" other things be brought into the series.

We already have a "What would you do differently?" thread, Jax, so I've merged your thread with it. Welcome to "MY Enterprise."

I think star trek enterprise is one of the best set, my families all like it.

Star Trek: Enterprise.
Episode one. Part one.

Having completed it's trial flight, Enterprise returns to Earth to pick up it's remaining crew and provisions. As they enter orbit Archer receives a message from Doctor Forrest, director of UESPA. The United Earth Government has decided that, although Enterprise is less well armed than her sister ships, she still carries too much fire-power for a purely civilian vessel. As a result the ship must be partially crewed by military personnel.
Archer is not pleased by this, especially as his hand picked XO and helm officer are among those to be replaced. Forrest reminds him that the Declaration class was designed by the United Earth Military Authority as a pure warship. It was only because UEMA needed UESPA's help to complete the project on schedule that one ship was put under the civilian organisations control, and adapted for deep space research. Archer reluctantly agrees, and informs his crew of the decision.
At the UEMA HQ, Lt. Cmdr Maria Hernandez is summoned for a meeting with Admiral Kelley. Most in the military disapprove of the situation with the Enterprise, seeing the UESPA people as a load of wide eyed impractical dreamers with no grasp of the real world. As such there are few volunteers to join the mission, and hardly any of them have the appropriate skills. If Hernandez volunteers as XO and gunnery officer, Kelley assures her, she will receive an immediate promotion to full Commander. On successful completion of one years service she will be assigned as XO to a Declaration class on a purely military posting. This will certainly enhance her long term career prospects. Hernandez, after some consideration, agrees.

Two days later Hernandez arrives at the base where she is to catch a shuttle to Enterprise. There are several people there already. Some UESPA, some Marines, a couple of civilians, and a few from her service. She recognizes Travis Mayweather, a top helmsman whom she had worked with before. Mayweather is not pleased to be going to Enterprise, but like Hernandez he has been promised a dream assignment if he volunteered. He's beginning to regret that decision, as he has no respect at all for UESPA.
As they talk, a gorgeous woman in ridiculously sexy clothes turns up. Hernandez, as the senior officer present, tries to get her to leave, believing her to be a stripper. After some confusion, it is established that the newcomer is in fact Professor Polly Partridge, one of the civilian scientists joining the mission. Hernandez is embarrassed, but Partridge doesn't mind. In fact, she's quite amused.

The shuttle ride to the ship gets under way. Mayweather sits next to Partridge, but soon finds himself worn down by the civilian's constant chatter, as she is fascinated with every process of the flight. Meanwhile Hernandez is sat next to Doctor Philip Locke, the ships surgeon. Gloomy and bad tempered, Locke is a depressing travelling companion. At the back of the shuttle the Marines keep themselves amused by trying to send cameras floating through the zero g environment to take pictures of Partridge's cleavage.
They are greeted on arrival by Lt. Hoshi Sato. Crewmen take their bags to their quarters, whilst all senior staff are summoned to the briefing room.
Captain Archer welcomes them. He thinks that, as they are all going to be working together, they should introduce themselves and get to know one another. Despite his encouragement no one is really willing to open up. Locke whispers to Partridge that, from a psychological standpoint, the dynamics in the room are very telling. The two main groups, UESPA and UEMA are maintaining their distance, leading to an 'us and them' mentality. Not good for team building.
To get things going, Locke and Partridge tell a few things about themselves. This prompts engineer Trip Tucker to talk about his background, and how he knew Partridge from Cambridge. An anecdote about learning to play rugby gets a response from Malcolm Reed, the New Zealander in command of the Marine detachment. Soon every one is a little more comfortable around each other, although it gets a bit awkward when Mayweather lets slip his disdain for UESPA.

The time comes for the ship to set off. Her first voyage: a straightforward trip to the Vega colony. Assuming all goes well they will then proceed into the largely unexplored sector 11.
The ship leaves orbit and speeds towards the edge of the solar system. Civilians and off duty crewmen crowd the observation dome as the countdown to warp gets under way. Partridge can hardly sit still in her chair. She's never been to warp, never left the solar system, and the excitement is unbearable. Locke is more blasé. He's been to Vulcan, Denobula, three Earth colonies...warp travel does nothing for him. Or so he says. Like everyone else, he keeps an eye on the countdown monitor.
On the bridge things are tense but an air of quiet professionalism pervades. Archer jokes about how he wanted to give some great inspirational speech, but the only thing he could think of was a gazelle he saw in Africa, "...and a speech about that would be just toe cringingly awful."
The message comes through from the engine room. Green light for warp. After getting Sato to give the crew a warning, Archer turns to helm.
"Mr. Mayweather. Engage."
The ship leaps to warp. In the observation dome there is cheering and applause. Even Locke looks happy.

Three days later. The ship is quarter of the way to Vega, and all seems well. The only oddity is a strange fluctuation in the artificial gravity field in the secondary hull. It is unusual, and there doesn't seem to be any cause, but it's not serious. In the meantime Hernandez insists on running a series of battle drills. Archer disapproves, but reluctantly allows them. He needs the XO on his side for the sake of the mission.
Suddenly the ship lurches. Speed increases, despite Mayweather's best efforts, to a dangerously high velocity. Damage reports come in from all over the ship. Hernandez suspects sabotage.
In engineering Tucker and his team quickly identify an instability in the warp field. Rather than providing a stable shell the field is twisting uncontrollably. This is pulling the ship off course, at a much higher speed than it was originally designed for.
Shutting down the field is not an option. It would collapse unsteadily, leaving different parts of the ship travelling at different speeds, ripping her apart. On the other hand, if the problem is not solved, the strain of such velocity would destroy Enterprise in less than twenty minutes.
Partridge has a suggestion. She thinks the warp instability may be linked to the artificial gravity fluctuations. Tucker remembers that all the initial warp field tests for this class of ship were done before Earth acquired gravity technology. Gravity was added to the ships late in their development, after the tests were completed. It is possible that the gravitational fields are interacting with the warp field in an unpredictable manner.
Hernandez is unconvinced. There are five other Declaration class ships in service, all with gravity. None have reported any problems. Partridge speculates that the interaction between the fields may be 'deterministically chaotic'. For the most part the system is stable. But any small fluctuation has the potential to start the process that would lead to instability. If this is the case then all Declaration class ships are at risk: Enterprise was just unlucky to hit the problem on her maiden voyage.
Archer gives the order to evacuate the secondary hull. As soon as Sato confirms this has been done, he gives the order to shut down gravity in those areas. Gradually the warp field begins to return to normal, and Mayweather regains control of the ship.
Light years off course, Archer contemplates what to do next. The ship needs repairs. Furthermore, as Hernandez points out, what happened to Enterprise could happen to any of her sister ships. Earth needs to be warned.
Archer decides to set course for the Alpha colony. It's not the nearest, but it has the best repair facilities of all planets in range. More importantly, regular courier vessels travel to and from Earth. One of these could carry the vital warning to the fleet, much faster than Enterprise in it's damaged state.
Partridge and Tucker work on a new system specially to detect warp field fluctuations before they become a problem. They also speculate on how the data collected during the incident could be used to improve understanding of warp fields, possibly leading to improved engine designs.

Eventually the Enterprise limps into the Alpha system. As they drop out of warp Archer gives the order to run a full sensor sweep. He wants to find the nearest courier and pass on the warning without delay. One such ship is found in orbit around the colony. But the sweep detects something else.At the edge of the system, positioned so it can't be seen from the colony, lies an unknown alien vessel...

To Be Continued!

Ideas about how you would do the show differently are great. Keep 'em coming. But for any of you who are putting in the time and effort to actually turn your ideas into treatments, scene-by-scene step outlines, or stories, the Fan Fiction forum would seem to be a more appropriate venue.

How about to start with no three B's Berman, Bragga and Bakula?

A different Captain one whoo is a commandeer and not one with a hero complex.

What... !! :confused::confused:
Archer is alpha and omega of entire series...

...if you put someone else in his position... oh boy... its hard to even think about this... :angryrazz:

Ah, sorry about that. I had meant to just put in a couple of paragraphs as an alternative to 'Broken Bow', but was struck with a sudden and entirely out of character burst of enthusiasm. Wrote quite a lot more than I intended too!

Like I said in another thread, blaming Berman and Braga for everything is really making us all look quite stupid especially since they weren't nearly as responsible as we think they were.

I don't see that smilie too often. It certainly gets the point across. :lol:

I understand. Nothing wrong with enthusiasm. :)

Badger, I liked that writeup. Perhaps you should start a fanfic version based on this? There are lots of good ideas there. :)

(HR, I like the new avatar. Nothing says cute quite like a beagle. Except, maybe, a puggle.)

^Thanks, I'll give it a try when I've got some spare time. I think I'll probably write it out in my own time in wordpad, then copy and paste to the BBS. After completing last nights effort, my back and neck ached from being sat hunched over the keyboard!
