The cast of TNG reunites for Family Guy

^Yeah, so ruined he's just picked up another major theatre award!

Oh, well, the poor, poor man! ;)

I'd pretty well kill to see that Macbeth he was in last year. (I'm assuming that's what he won the award for?) Well, OK, not kill, but I'd maybe do some maiming. I haven't heard if it has been taped and has been/will be released on DVD, but if so, I think I'm going to have to add it to my collection.

I saw that in London - November before last. It was amazing! He won the Olivier award for his role of Claudius in Hamlet.

^ Oh, am I ever jealous of you! "Jealous" isn't nearly a strong enough word, in fact - I need a little green-eyed monster smiley, at the very least. But it actually gives me a small thrill to even hear directly from somebody who got to see it.

When are we going to get transporter technology so that I can go to London to see plays, huh huh huh?

Don't forget that he also starred in a major blockbuster franchise landing one of the most important characters in the "X-Men" movies, and not only that, one of them was the best comic book/superhero movie ever ("X2: X-Men United")! :) That's right, I may be the only one, but I still think it's the best one. Better than Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, Sin City, Iron Man, and all the rest!

Little aside: Patrick Stewart became interested in the X-Men franchise when he saw a cover with Professor X featured prominently and thought that his agent had approved his likeness to be used without permission.

That's really funny. Yul Brynner, the actual inspiration for the character's appearance, was not so preoccupied.

 I really can't think of more perfect casting in any other franchise movie, and I'm not just saying that because of my bias from how much I love "X2". I remember looking at a picture of the "X-Men" movie cast with a friend of mine and him saying, "Patrick Stewart was born to play that role, there's no one else they could have casted". Of course there are other excellent actors who naturally look good bald (i.e. Ben Kingsley), but I agree with my friend. All his years playing Picard gave him the perfect authoritative presence and gravitas to play the leader of the X-Men and that's why one of the few good things to come out of the demise of the TNG film franchise is that it came along at the perfect time to make a great X-Men movie possible by freeing up Stewart's schedule. Too bad like the TNG series, they could only make one really awesome movie in all their attempts.

The episode wasn't that bad and pretty much what I expected (it was released that the TNG story was the subplot not long before the episode aired because the episode was to focus on Meg).

I couldn't disagree more. I thought it was pretty weak. Some of it was 'eh'. But I found it to be a complete waste of time. FUTURAMA's Trek episode was far better and a more fitting tribute. This was just stunt casting..and not that good at it either. I found the sister's plot about be 'saved' by Kirk Cameron the better of the two plots...

Sorry... I give it an "A" for effort..."D" for execution..

Well, Alex Ross did use Stewart as the basis for his Professor X in a brief panel in the Marvels series. Moreover, he used Leonard Nimoy as the basis of his Namor.

Family Guy needs to reunite the TNG cast for a feature length Blue Harvest-style TNG parody.

Hopefully this was a taste of something bigger and better to come

I didn't think Blue Harvest was that great either. I don't understand why people hold it up as some example of Family Guy at its best. To me it seemed to be a mostly faithful reenactment of the movie it was parodying, without enough clever joke changes to justify transferring the story to the Family Guy universe and its characters. The only part I thought was really funny or clever was when Brian first opens his mouth as Chewbacca and makes the Chewy growl and then it turns out he was just gargling or something and he still talks just like Brian.

i watched this episode the other day, it was really good, but i wonder y it wasnt made into an extended episode like blue harvest. i mean if u hav that many stars on your show you'd want to giv them more than just a couple of sentences to say i think...

It was a great episode, I'm glad that I recorded it.:):techman:

I loved the scenes with the TNG characters, but the main plot was HORRIBLE! Too much religion-bashing IMO (even if they were bashing athiests at first). They should've just left the religion part out of it and focused more on the cast!

i couldn't stand the scenes with TNG folks, and thought the Main plot was far better. And what could have been a better companion plot for TNG since they did some bashing themselves over the years...

over all? The episode was a complete waste of time and, once again, shows why TOS is the funniest group of actors even though they all hate each other...

I was pretty let down by this. I'm kind of in the middle on Family Guy in general. I've seen some really funny ones, on the other hand I feel like the show has kind of run it's course. The constant barrage of AIDS jokes and 'wrong' humor has just gotten tiresome for me at this point. Shock value can only carry you so far.

The episode itself just felt like a wasted opportunity. There were so many funny things they could have done with this idea. But all they really had was "the TNG actors are a bunch of spoiled kids" idea over and over.

Other than having the transporter involved they could have done the exact same show with the cast of the Love Boat, CSI, any show really. Why bother to assemble the cast if they aren't going to do something funny and Trek related with them? They were just..there.

I dont think its fair to blame the Next Gen Cast for this bad episode. It was horribly written and really its like the Next Gen characters were just an after thought to try and get more people to watch. They could have just as easily used the cast of Loveboat or Friends for this episode since it seems like it was just a ratings gimmick and not a real effort to use the characters.

How is it the TNG's cast's fault that the TNG parts weren't t funny? It wasn't like the cast wrote in their own lines. The writers of Family Guy had a great chance to do a really funny TNG parody episode but instead blew it off as a marketing gimmick. Wil Wheaton wrote on his blog that none of the lines had any relevance to the real cast except for Michael Dorn's "I have to pee" comment. Besides, I've heard that the TNG cast were a pretty hilarious bunch offset....
