Exactly what is the relationship between Mary Poppins and Bert?

The reason I brought this up was because it's all that was on tv this past weekend, it seemed.

Oh, for those of you who haven't seen it--somewhere on youtube is a hilarious trailer for "Scary Poppins"--making it a horror film.

My theory: Bert and Mary teamed up with Doctor Dolittle and Willy Wonka (the Gene Wilder version, of course) and fought crime. Their transport? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, of course. :)

Why do you think they picked "Dick Van Dyke" for the role of Bert? Strong hint there. Bert's peculiar accent also makes me think he's meant to be an alien.

Van Dyke himself says he HATES his bad Cockney accent. He has apologized to the entire country of England many times, and he said they have graciously accepted it and embraced the movie also.

At least he's good-natured about it.

Van Dyke is one of my favorites performers ever.

I propose that when Dick Van Dyke dies, the cast of EastEnders does a tribute episode where everyone speaks in his mangled Cockernee accent. :bolian:

And if they ever remake the film, Jason Statham HAS to be Bert. :guffaw:
