The Tate & Tennant Show

Just been listening to this all morning. Tate and Tennant have the chemistry bang-on (more so than bloody Aled Jones and Melanie Sykes), though their fumbling through the technicalities of radio DJing was amusing to listen to. David took the lead during proceedings, with Catherine very much a support act. Pretty entertaining morning, overall - and John Barrowman has yet to appear. Me, I have no regrets over missing Fighting Talk this week (there's always the podcast). :bolian:

Now it's John Barrowman - and he's doing the Scottish accent thing. :D

I might have to look into this later. I do remember that the commentry they did for the first episode of season 4 was one of the funniest ever, when I heard it last year.

 They were an inspired choice to sit in for Wossy. I thought they were very amusing, particularly talking about the dvds and things to be given as prizes. I almost crashed the car when Catherine suddenly realised what the object of the phone-in quiz was. I liked her crack to Barrowman about "waterproof mascarra". I thought David's question to The Proclaimers, "What question, when you are asked it, makes your heart sink" was very revealing. Later, as an aside he commented that he was bored to death of people asking him what advice he's given to Matt Smith. I guess that's the question that does it to him.

Catherine made me laugh when she in advertently revealed something that she may or may not supposed to have revealed about the final episode (and then tried to cover it!)

Very entertaining morning. :techman:

I'm a radio journalist and this is one question you learn not to ask. It's embarrassing for everyone and it's pointless anyway, because the answer is always the same: "oh, I'm sure he'll do fine without my advice".

What I usually do instead with people in that kind of situation is to ask something like "do you have any advice for the younger you?". In my experience, this is a question that most people are comfortable with answering. Once they've done that, you can try the "Matt Smith question" and sometimes you get an interesting answer.

He was asked it this morning on BBC Breakfast news and made some banal remark such as you suggest, pretty much the same one he always makes. He's bored by the question and so are the audience. That's why I thought the question he asked about making one's heart sink was a good one - obviously comes from experience. I like your question, btw, what you would advise your younger self.

 Still, it was a good excuse for them to play "Right Said Fred" by Bernard Cribbins. :bolian:

I wonder if this week's show is podcastable?

^ This is true, although these days much of the workforce is fuelled by lattes and cappuccinos as it is orange builder's tea!

Sadly, I can't get the show to play.

I've tried to load the Real Player Stream in 3 different browsers (Firefox 3, IE 7, Chrome) and then I isolated it and tried to download it directly.

rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk:554/radio2coyopa/radio_2_-_saturday_1000.ra?timestamp=1239452561&pid=b00jrv55&BBC-UID=54596eb0ceca7b18f2ba23cfd177d6cc8594a71a807051d4f43fc9174453bdd5&SSO2-UI

Not sure what the issue is.

Anyone mind letting me know how they managed it?

It might not work in your country. I only have limited experience of iPlayer, so I don't know.

I'd have thought there'd be a podcast as Jonathan Ross's show usually is available as a podcast, but I can't see this week's show being available in that form.

^Yep, that's what I meant when I said I loaded it in 3 different browsers. (Real Player by itself is worthless.)

I just tried to install RP11 to see if that would be it (Outdated RP plugin would be updated via a fresh install?) but it was throwing off a Trojan issue which I then found out is common. Real.com says it's okay, Kaspersky, Avira, & AVG call it a Trojan. Could just be a false positive though. Anyways, I installed the last stable version of 10.5 and haven't had any sucess yet... Sad this is Local radio, if it was National Radio, the iPlayer would use Flash instead of RealPlayer and then I could hear the show.

So again, I ask, can anyone grab this for me and send it to me, I'd be very thankful.

Well, if you (or anyone else) would be willing to give it a shot...

Here's what you could do:

Go to: http://www.orbitdownloader.com/

-Download the Application
-Install the Application
-Run the Application

-Right-Click the Taskbar Icon (in Windows XP of course) and select GrabIt++

-Once that new 2nd application is open...

Load the iPlayer page and when the Radio Show starts playing...

Select the tick box in GrabIt++ for the .ra stream. [radio_2_-_saturday_1000.ra]

Click Download and then save it to your Hard Drive as normal.

Send me a PM if anyone is up for trying it out.

Thanks.
