What do you think of Volkswagens?

What I think about Volkswagens? That it sounds totally wrong. Volkswagen already is the plural. :p

Not sure how well they're doing anymore, but their electrical systems in the past (from personal & friend's experiences) were not the most reliable.

Of course, both of ours could have been bad units each, but still...

Cheers,

I think the Scirrocco (sp?) is one of the coolest looking hatchbacks I've seen in a long time. My cousin has a Passat wagon that is quite the nice car. Also the Passat CC is damned pretty.

Other then that I don't know much.

I think they are much like Honda or Toyotas. Very well engineered, high quality cars, but - not as bombproof as legend would have it.
I don't think the resale value is necessarily justified. 250k is still 250k, I don't care what make the car is.
I'd love to have a VW to work on, but I honestly think you get way more bang for your buck out of a GM or MOPAR product. Foreign parts are usually much more expensive, and despite popular myth, they're going to have the same problems as American cars as they age.

No, my old 84 Rabbit was done in by the interior electrical system as well. Of course, it was 14 years old and had not been taken very good care of, including having the top left down in several rain storms both during and previous to my tenure as owner. that might have had something to do with it...

Other than that, they can be very expensive to fix, but I love the way they drive.

My folks had a cute little red Volkswagen Polo II back in the eighties. We used to go on holiday trips to the French / German Alps towing a big Alpenkreuzer. Getting uphill was always lots of fun!

I rather like them, myself. Solidly built vehicles, and well-designed. Plus, you really can't beat the City Golf in terms of value for money right now amongst new cars.

I'm looking at a reasonably priced 2003 Jetta Wagon 1.8T GLS with 123,000 kms. Well maintained, well kept, looks real nice. Having a mechanic look at it on Tuesday.

I learned to drive in the 1960s in my Mom's 63 Beetle. Nice car.

Well, two of the three cars I've owned have been VWs. I had my first one (Polo) for 5 five years and except for some small problems with the transmission, it was great.

My current car is a VW Eos which also great. I've owned for three years now and I still really enjoy driving it.

My family has owned quite a few VWs over the years and we haven't really had any problems with any of them.

So yeah, I like them, though I do have to admit that most of them can be a bit on the boring side.

I've driven at least three different models (not mine) and have liked all of them. I would totally consider buying one.
