My son wants to see this movie! :)

My son is 10, loves Wii, Chess, card games, robotics, and is a big Star Wars fan. He has had a passing interest in Star Trek, but nothing serious. When he saw an ad for the new Trek movie, his eyes popped out and said he wanted to see that opening day. If there are a few million more people his age with that kind of curiosity, then Abrams has done his job and the stewardship of the franchise will have passed to a new generation for the next 40 years. I would love nothing better. Better to survive with new blood than to die on the vine out of stubborn steadfastness.

Ahh..Brings a tear to ma eye! Congrats your raising the kid right!:techman:(the kid sounds alot like me when I was 10, in to chess, video games and robotics, & star wars) how ever even at that young an age I was still a bigger fan of TREK!

Indeed and this exactly the point. Trek needs to be accessible to all audiences -- not just Trek fans or scifi fans-- to be successful.

Even my wife who literally has no interest in Trek whatsoever says she wants to see this new film. If you knew my wife, you'd know what an accomplishment this is as she has no interest in any scifi at all.

Here's what we need:

A whole bunch of people going to see the film because they are either fans or because it just looks so goddamned cool.

Then we need great reviews like TDK (or hell even like Iron Man) had last year to get more people on the bandwagon.

We also need it not to suck.

If this getl TDK or IM level WOM expect this to assrape every other film in May.

I'm already expecting record breaking box office numbers . . . surely nowhere near TDK, but record breaking nonetheless

at least I'm sure it'll previous Star Trek movie BO records . . .

My son is 16--and wants to catch Star Trek with me. But then he and I watch stuff like Fringe, Heroes, Chuck, Reaper, etc. on t.v. and he's familiar with the Trekverse.

Still, he'll hopefully spread the word among his classmates... :)

So does my wife... and my brother... and my parents... and my sister-in-law... and several guys at work...

I can't ever remember this much anticipation in the air for a Star Trek production. Trek has typically been something that I've watched alone.

I think the last time I watched Trek with others (who were interested) was the premiere of Broken Bow. My folks came over to my house for that one. I know my brother hasn't seen Star Trek at all in 13 years (I made him take me to see FC when I was 15). He and I are planning to sneak away and see the new film on May 8th since our wives both want us to wait and see it with them the following week.

I roped my fiancee into watching trek with me. she had never seen an episode in her life. now she loves it. she was more excited to see the secret premier than i was.
