Spiderman 4 script to be ready by this summer

Good. Even if its not a shooting script we should know who the villians are by summer.

Raimi said the film has to make the announced May 6, 2011 release date. "We have to make the release date, and on all of these pictures, the 'Spider-Man' films--and I'm sure it's the same as with many of the other bigger-budgeted films--they have release dates far in advance of a screenplay," he said. "So it's about getting it ready the best you can in time for the first day of production. That's what we've always done, and that's what we'll try to do again."

And in what contiunues to be polite public comments on Spiderman 3 Sam announces he has complete control, once again like the first two well received films, over Spiderman 4.
The helmer also told Empire magazine he will have full control over the fourth installment - something he didn't have on the third. "They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually," he said. "But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn't really have creative control, so to speak."
He added that "The best way for me to move forward on films, is that I've got to be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film. I love Spider-Man so much that I'd like to continue telling Spider-Man stories. But only under those circumstances where I think I can honour him."

Its so apparent that Avi Arad and the Sony suits forced Venom into Spiderman 3 that I'd guess part of the deal in getting him back is them internally behind close doors agreeing to once again give him back full control. Basically admitting their forced use of Venom actually hurt the film.

So, the Suits don't know shit? Who'da thunk it

Spider-Man 3 suffered from Batman & Robinitis, to a degree: Too many new characters to flesh them out in any real detail. Had Venom NOT been included, then the Sandman/Green Goblin 2 would have been more than enough. The scenes with Venom easily could have been done with Harry.

I realise I might be flamed for this, but I'd kinda like the fourth film to remove the third from canon so that they could do Sandman and Venom again in later films. They're two good villains wasted in Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man will be dancing some more in the next movie since so many people loved it. ;)

I wonder who missed the fact that Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer totally obliterates Peter's entire motivation for being a superhero.

I think that the next spider man movie needs to draw from international sources.

"Parker, I know we told you that Sandman was your uncle's real killer, but we just found that he was working for Morbius. And right before Sandman killed your uncle, Vulture stole his wallet!"

It was still Sam's and his brother's name on the writing credits.

I know. It's hard for me to believe that the third movie can be blamed on "they made me do it". Venom (and I'm not even a big fan of his) wasn't the problem with that movie, it was how they used the character. The frickin' 90s cartoon did a better job with Venom's origin than this movie did. And Spider-Man III had a lot more wrong with it than the Venom parts, believe me.

^^^
How do we know only the idea of inserting Venom into the film was the outside influence?
There have been many or none at all.
I wasn't there, I'm not sure.
But wow, people are quick to judge and don't forgive easily these days, eh?

Yeah, their names are in it cause they had to rework the prior shooting script. There was no time to redraft and reapprove an all new script in the time they had.
They did the, arguably, best they could under the forced conditions thrust upon them. No one would debate that it could've been handled better from scratch but they didn't have that time. So, we perhaps got the best under the conditions that existed with Arad & Sony suits putting their $.02 in concerning Venom.

Raimi having full control gave us two really good Spiderman movies. He has full control again so there is no reason to doubt we will not get the same type love, attention and faithfulness as we got the last two times.

I think Raimi having full control is great...Spider-Man II is one of the best super hero movies ever. The sixth best, I believe. But Raimi bucking all the blame is unprofessional.

I always laugh at the criticism that SM3 gets when the first two were pretty suck as well. Oh and I say that as a guy who likes Spider-Man 2 but c'mon... SM2 was Smallville with webs.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure the studio didn't say "Hey use Venom and be sure to make it extra crappy!"

And it's still unclear who was responsible for dumbass stupid like Peter Parker dancing like a moron... wow, way to show the black costume's effect on him.

The 90s Animated series did the Venom story much better in about 60 mins of screentime. It's not like it's a bad story either. Costume turning Peter evil is a pretty good base story.

I absolutely loved the Venom three parter from the 90s cartoon. The cartoon actually spent time showing that the alien symbiote came down from a space shuttle instead of randomly falling from the sky. They wisely had Rhino and Shocker as henchmen instead of the main villains in it and even had Peter nearly killing Shocker to show how much the suit was corrupting him. Also in the cartoon Spider-man actually leads Venom through the city toward a place with extremely loud noise to beat him instead of hitting two metal poles together. Spider-Man 3 did such a horrible job with Venom.

Ditto that, which explains why, for me, the movie was a letdown.
