How "connected" are you?

Since I no longer carry a beeper, the only way to get in touch with me is email (and PMs on my Forums) and regular phone; I am, thankfully, pretty hard to contact. :D

I quess one question that I have on this topic is...why is it a good thing to be out of contact? I can see how being bothered by work on your spare time would be bothersome, but that's why you set a distinct ringtone for your work's number so you don't accidentally answer (or no ring tone at all so you don't even know they're calling). I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to be in contact with friends and family, i.e. the people you care about, as much as possible.

Because you don't want to be interrupted when watching Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Terminator, Doll House, Lost, Smallville, Doctor Who, Torchwood...

Especialy if watching off the air and you're not renting a DVR or don't have the cache running. Even then, it's not the same when the viewing experience is inturupted like that (at least commercials occur between scenes).

Then there's interupted meals, sleeping in after watching a late night movie on TV that you haven't seen in decades and phone calls (or some salesman or a pair of Mormans witnessing at the door) while you're showering or using the toilet.

Because sometimes you don't want to be bothered by them? I'm not God (you heard it here first), and my love & patience is not infinite.

I have a comes-with-the-plan cell phone I answer when I feel like it.

When I don't, I don't.

Joe, who rarely does

He's young. Someday, he will understand. :D

While I'm about as wired as they come, I sometimes yearn for an agrarian life.

I succombed in january and got a facebook account. Other then that it's e-mail, gmail, assorted IMs and my phone and cell phone. But I'm one of those people who turn off my cell phone when I go to sleep since I'd like to sleep then!

Absolutely. When I want to talk to my family, I'll call them. Half the time I ignore their calls when they try to get a hold of me. I love them lots, but they need to leave me alone sometimes.

For as long as I have the job that I have, I am pretty well connected between my blackberry and my laptop. I am always "online" in some fashion.

It might be before your time, but he's talking about carrying a pager, not a cell phone.

I hear ya. On both points.

You could just put it on vibrate as i do when i go to bed. Sure since it's on vibrate, i won't be able to hear it, but if someone texts me or calls me, i can pick up the phone to see, and call them back. 'Course, i never turn my cell phone off anyway.

I have a land-line with voice mail that I can access from anywhere, my email, which I can check from any computer, and my cell phone, which I can take with me anywhere.

BUT--no one calls me on my cell and I get crummy reception at home, so it's off most of the time. The only people who call me at home are the idiots I supervise while working, or hubby telling me that he's on his way home from work. Not many people email, except for work, and I don't need to check that on my MANY days off.

SO, I could be in constant contact with the world, but frankly, I don't want to be, and the world doesn't seem all that interested in contacting me, either.

I have a phone, Email, and facebook for people to get a hold of me. Doesn't happen too much though. :(

I would be more connected if my Blackjack battery didn't arrive almost dead
I took a chance and got a used one on ebay and apparently the battery had a problem and won't charge
got a new battery for $5 so hopefully I'm not totally screwed

I'm a solitary kind of guy. I'm definitely working toward that agrarian lifestyle, as soon as I can afford it.
