A Beautiful Poodle - Jack Bauer has Been Rescued

Good you're doing this, apostle. Yes, he'll never replace Midnight, but it's been my experience no new pet replaces an old one, the family unit goes on, changed a little.

We acquired a new dog, a spaniel, late last year, and I've been wondering about the treat emnt she had. For one thing, she was only 2 years old, and had already had a litter, for a breeder. And she was very scared of me for a while, especially when I wore a red tshirt or top. Makes me wonder what happened at the kennel she was in. Now, she's happy and lively and bounces all over the place. I will say it took a while, but we got there. You will too, with kindness.

Thanks, Australis - that's encouraging. :)

Last night, I took Jack Bauer to his grandmother's for a visit. I let him loose in her back yard. He ran into the house and... then hid in the entertainment center, on the bottom shelf, behind a vcr that hasn't been used since Vietnam.

Jack Bauer has demonstrated he is far more intelligent than I could have hoped, based on what the vet told me.

First of all, training pads - only crapped on those. Secondly, he pead on a bag by the door... and it was uncrumpled when he got done with it. Are you hearing me? He found a piece of plastic, straightened itot, and then pissed on it. In other words, he made a tool.

Still, pretty damn clever. Mind you, what must the previous owners have done to him to make him do that?

the pads apparently have a scent that tells dogs "Crap on me!"
my mom's dog Henry uses them when she's at work

It's good what you're doing, apostle. I know it's hard to lose a member of the family like that. When Sammy died (he was 15 and the last year was rough, so we knew it was coming) I was pretty sad for a while. I still miss him. But after a year and a half our family was ready for a new dog and we got Ebby, here :)

I'm glad to see you have done the same. At least with us, we knew the end was coming soon, but with you it hit you so suddenly. I'm glad to see you have rescued Jack Bauer. I know Jack Bauer is shy right now but soon you two will be just like Homer and the poodle in my avatar.

I love Ebby like I loved Sammy, but she'll never replace him (though once in a while I still call her Sammy, by accident)

what's his face, thanks. :)

Jack Baur is finally comfortable enough to chew on bones. He has one right now, and I think I'm gonna fall asleep listening to him chew on it. :)

T'Baio, I hope you feel good laughing. Sounds like you could use some medicine.

Alpha, in other words, it's old. They didn't have vcr's in Vietnam. :)

Last night, Jack Bauer and I watched 24. He again chewed on a bone. :)

Yea thats why I was confused lol

So, I've covered that he was abused, neglected, etc. And I'm starting to love this dog even though, right now, he's incapable of showing the affection poodles are known for.

Last night, I got him new food, and I got him new bones to chew. It was like the new bones changes his life. Tail came up, he stopped trying to make himself "small" in the corner of a room, and he just seemed like he was happy. At that point, I got him to drink not half a bowl, now a bowl, but TWO bowls of water.

Well, this morning, I got up and I put him on his pee pad in the bathroom. I then went to bed. He ran to the bed stairs I got for him, up them, and to his new bone. He fell alseep. Then, about an hour later, I heard/saw him go down the stairs, over to a corner right by a pee pad. And the dog - God bless him, I know he was trying - peed right by the pads, about three inches from them. When I heard that peeing on carpet sound, which every dog owner is familiar with, I sprang out of bed as fast as I could to try to move him onto the pad. Bad move - I moved really fast, and it scared the crap out of the dog.

I took him outside though, and he then did number 2 on his leash for the first time around me. That was good! I just feel so bad for scaring him.

And now, he's back on the bed, ripping a bone apart. He seems happy.

Also I tried to make him a grooming appointment for today. They couldn't get him in until next Thursday. I decided to try to cut some of the hair away from his eyes. I got it, and I didn't hurt him, but the top of his head looks retarded now.

I got up and pooped today!

It was pretty difficult at first, but after some controlled pushing, I got it out. It tore a bit, there was undigested corn in there, but I'm feeling free again.

On another note, I'm aware people don't care. But I'll continue updating!
