Trek Trading cards (spoilers)

I like the subtle scorch marks around the phaser banks in that shot of the top of the saucer. Any reservations I've had about the VFX of the film are quickly going out the window.

Is it old Spock or is it Sarek ?

Problem solved

I know that the MTV caption for this photo said it was Quinto and Nimoy, but could they perhps be mistaken? Could the other guy be Sarek (Ben Cross)?
It's not only the MTV caption. Trekmovie.com has confirmed that this is what's written on the back of the trading card.

I don't know. Regardless of what the card says, that just doesn't look like Nimoy. The cheekbones are wrong. More like Cross's face.
Geez, this movie can't get here soon enough. I don't think spy photos taken during the Cuban missile crisis got this much scrutiny.

Kennedy: "RUSSIA DIDN'T RESPECT TEH CANON!!"

It looks nothing like Nimoy, it's not him, it's most likely Sarek.

Trek trading cards have gotten facts wrong many times before.

Particularly this image has me wondering: Could that be from the Kobayashi Maru test? I didn't think McCoy would be part of that, too.

Kirk does seem awfully confident, doesn't he? ;)

It seems a little strange that McCoy seems to be sitting at the comm station to me. Frankly, it seems odd that he's at the Academy. I guess nuBones doesn't start as a Doc and then join Starfleet. Gah, t3h can0n!

Perhaps it's Nimoy's stand-in, and we just weren't supposed to notice? :)

The idea of old Spock 'anonymously' meeting young Spock is fun. And have we seen that uniform before? It looks different than the Academy gray one to me - it looks more brown. Anyway, I like it. It's exciting. :D

Well, McCoy was in the simulator for Saavik's KMT as well. Maybe he's just "set" dressing for Kirk's test, relaying "casualty" reports.

I have a feeling that this shot is in the Enterprise hanger deck. Seems to me a curve to the ceiling.

I also believe that this is towards the end of the film, and it's the "I will take my leave of you now" scene.

Is this also going to be something like the ending of TNG episode Relics - Spock: "You're giving me one of your shuttles!"

I'm somewhat curious as to the uniform that young Spock is wearing. Seems to be something different than formal dress. Possibly for a service of fallen shipmates towards then end of movie as well?
You may be right, but I think this scene possibly takes place on Earth in that same "shuttle hanger" that we saw in the trailer (the one where the cadets were standing around, listening to actor Paul McGillion, who was seemingly giving them their orders). If it does turn out to be the same place as that scene in the trailer, then I think it is too big to be the Enterprise's shuttle bay.

That scene was filmed at the old "Marine Corps Air Station" in Tustin, California in the big blimp hanger located there.
The registry number on the side of the shuttle would seem to suggest it's not the Enterprise hangar deck, and comparing this to the trailer screencaps of the Academy shuttleport (blimp hangar, heh :D) doesn't lead me to think they match, either, but it's hard to make a clear call, one way or the other. The black-and-yellow caution tape seen in two places does fit the Lebec powerplant location, but it's still unclear what in-story setting that's supposed to represent. The one problem is that the shuttle seen in the spy photos from when filming was taking place show only a shuttle with 1701 markings.

I'm going to guess that the spy photos were of the shuttle Kirk would board for Starfleet Academy.

Well we know the 'real' reason TOSMcCOy was in Saavik's simulator was because Nick Meyer was screwing with the audience. I'd say the in-universe reason was because he was going to be a part of the crew of the ship Saavik was going on her training cruise on.

I'd say nuMcCoy is being treated as just another grunt here. Perhaps he is inspired to join Starfleet sooner in this timeline, and actually gains his doctorate there?

I think nuBones went to medical school to learn "doctor stuff" then went to the Academy to learn "space stuff"...isn't that what Starfleet Academy is for. It's quite possible that if you are going to be in Starfleet, you need to go to the Academy -- no matter who you are or what other education you may have.

So many nights in my quarters.

So many LONELY nights..."

Actually, he looks a lot like the Beta Unit from "The Last Starfighter." Maybe this is a crossover.

The Last Starfighter? Now THAT was a fanboy movie par excellence!
Perhaps a remake/crossover titled Star Trek XII could finally mollify all those poor self-respecting fans (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) who felt so left out the last time...

If that IS Nimoy and not Ben Cross, then that means Old Spock uses his knowledge and wiles to get onto the grounds of the Academy to reach his younger self. Something we rarely see Spock do in any timeline: bust and break the rules.

I'm going to guess that the spy photos were of the shuttle Kirk would board for Starfleet Academy.

For what it's worth, the photos that were in that particular set of spy shots featured a bunch of extras in blue jumpsuits wearing what looked to be hard hats at an industrial location surrounding that shuttle.

I know it didn't seem to match the "Academy Shuttleport" (the Paul McGillion shot), but I think that's only because we couldn't see enough of it.

Here is a comparison of a photo of the Blimp Hanger at the Tustin (Calif.) Marine Base (the actual filming location) and the trading card photo. This shows some elements common to both:

So if that IS Spock, then either he got to that some "shuttleport location" that we all assumed was at STA, or possibly Abrams is cheating and using the same filming location for two different in-film locations (which I doubt).

WOW. that top picture would make one Hell of a Hanger Deck on the tail end of the NuEnterprise...

Damn... how big would the ship have to be to accommodate that!?
