Spock's fate

As has been said before: they've already killed him once; to do it again would make it feel cheaper, somehow. I'm kind of favoring leaving his fate open, either allowing him to "ride off into the sunset", headed for parts unknown, or to have Spock simply leave the story, his part in it played, and not show or state exactly what happens to him from there.

I totally agree. :techman:

Or would you have him live for ever and ever and ever ?

Why do we need him to die? We've seen him die once. A great death. An unbeatable death. Anything they do in this movie would be a retread and probably not a good one.

I think Spock riding off into the sunset at the end by going back to the future ala the ending of First Contact while leaving us behind with the new cast would be the best exit for Spock.

A passing of the torch doesn't mean one has to set the torch bearer on fire.

I don't need him to die.
I just wouldn't find a final, irreversible, heroic death to be a bad idea at all.

Your idea of sunset riding Spock could work just as well.
I'm flexible.

Well, from the pictures I've seen of him so far, he looks pretty much like a corpse anyhow...

Must be the makeup.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. Nimoy doesn't look that bad in real life but the pics I've seen of Spock make him look about 200 years old.

True the Spock make-up does make him look really really old, but imo he doesn't look too good in real life either

^^ Nimoy looks great for his age! Thank god he's not moving around with a walker or wheelchair.

I've got mixed views. I understand those who say that his death would be much more of a send off than him simply going off into the sunset, but I am conscious of the counter argument regarding TWOK's death scene. To be honest I'm not so sure he should die again, on his own, without any of the TOS crew (Kirk & McCoy Prime of you will). We'll just have to see.

One thing to note though is that Orci & Kurtzman said recently that when they told Nimoy of their plan he got misty eyed and had to spend hours thinking about whether or not to be in the picture so I figure that he must have some pretty powerful and memorable scenes in the movie, and a death scene would certainly be a candidate for the emotion factor.

Yup. Shatner does as well. Hell, you look at Shater and he looks like other people look in their late fifties, early sixties. No way would I put him at 78 if I didn't already know.

I'm happy to look like that when I'm 80. Although, I think I'd shave off the stubble and do something about the thickness of the eyebrows.

ultimately, when I'm 80 it doesn't really matter how my face looks. If it shows my age or not.
I just hope I'm relatively healthy, mobile and active .

And Nimoy luckily seems to be all those things.

Yes, Shatner is holding up very good and his age doesn't show.

Personally, I'd like to see Spock quietly slip away from the crew, and leave his fate to off screen speculation.

Leave the hint that with his remaining years, he'll be an unseen overseer/caretaker of the past' future. :)

You don't kill a Legend, (I'm looking at you GEN) but if they do/did I am sure it will be a glorious and fitting end worthy of the life the character has lived.

I hope he lives on, though.

I think Nimoy in an interview said if they asked him to return for any future movies, he would be receptive to it. So maybe he just goes back in time.

How about this, courtesy of the ending of The Simpsons monorail episode?

Nimoy: My work here is done.
Barney: But you didn't do anything!
Nimoy: Didn't I? [beams away]

Just have Kirk, or better yet, McCoy deliver Barney's line, and there's Spock's exit from the movie.

I've heard a rumor that some (presumably already established) character dies...And I was thinking Nimoy's Spock would be the logical conclusion...But in light of Nimoy saying he's willing to entertain a return, maybe not. I'm stumped.
