Nimoy, Quinto - Spock Comparison

Nope they don't loook alike. Slightly similar but you'd think they could find one actor, in this entire world of some-odd billion people, the looks like Spock. But I guess that's asking too much.

It kills me that some think the way these people look should be one of the most important components in choosing an actor for the part... :wtf:

I dislike seeing the same faces in every second movie I see myself...makes it harder for me to 'believe'

A valid point, and a long time Trek fan I have often been dismayed to see Nimoy age because as beloved as it - it is difficult to see mortality creeping up on him just like the rest of us. For that reason I am looking forward to the fresh faces/blood and actually very much look forward to Mr Pegg's prtrayal of Scotty! And it would help if Quinto/Spoq would SHOUT a lot! ;)

where did i read someone lamenting that vulcans are essentially jewish, and that quinto is miscast because he has no jewish angst?

My only concern is the voice in the beginning. I noticed that Saldana's Uhura voice is very different in the British trailer which sounded odd at first, too.

But, hopefully, by the time the movie is shown, I'll be used to it.

The problem for me is recasting at all. I've known these characters played by the same people my whole life. Quinto doesn't have Nimoy's chiseled, stoic, and almost fearsome look. But neither does anyone else I can think of, and it's obvious that casting unkowns wasn't on the table, so he's about as good as it's going to get. I look forward to seeing what he does with the part.

Again, I go back to Superman...

Brandon Routh and John Newton may have resembled Chris Reeves alot... Christopher Reeves looked NOTHING like George Reeve. Dean Cain, Gerard Christopher, and Tom Welling and not exactly lookalikes...

At least 8 different actors have played Superman in movies and TV, and he has been drawn by hundreds of different artists. This has not diminished Superman. Spock > Nimoy, Shatner < Kirk.

This thread is still alive?

As I said, I look forward to seeing what Zach Quinto does with the part. I'm sure he'll enrich the character as a whole.

Let me guess... you want Ray Liotta as Pike?

for people who don't think Quinto or Pine (or anyone else, for that matter) aren't good matches for Spock and Kirk, I urge you to watch Oliver Stone's Nixon (in which Anthony Hopkins plays the title role). it's all in the acting and, at this point, I'm spending my time hoping that Pine and Quinto do well on that score more than anything else.

You would compare Quinto or Pine to Anthony Hopkins? Is this a joke? Anthony Hopkins is a classically trained, acadamy award winning actor who plays in a very different league to these two newbies and always has done. To my knowledge neither Quinto nor Pine have ever really played a demanding or distinguishing role in their life. They are totally untested. Some people gush over these actors as if they were the bees knees. However, I just cannot see what's so special about them? For crying out loud, they could have had Matt Damon for Kirk. An opportunity they tossed out the window. For what? Because he's a few years older than when Kirk first made captain? Ludicrous.

Yeah I would of COMPLETELY preferred Damon over this Pine guy! At least he is a cutie pie who can (for sure) act! And isn't he a known Treklover too....? That would of been a smart move and a lot of name recognition right off the bat.
