Andromeda - Gene Roddenbury's

Andromeda was a show I quit on a couple of episodes into season 2, so I guess I didn't even like where Mr RHW was going with the thing before he got canned.

I remember all the hype, and being able to read the various species backgrounds online, and being excited, but frankly it all never amounted to anything. Angel Dark, Demon Bright (is that what it was called? It's been a while) was probably the only episode that qualified as good. I remember a pretty decent season 1 cliffhanger, but the season 2 resolution was incredibly disappointing.

I can't believe that this thing ran for 5 seasons... 110 episodes? Wow. I did flip by it once or twice in the later seasons and could clearly see it had gone from bad to worse. How is it that stuff like Farscape and Battlestar Galactica (yeah yeah, i know, not *technically* canceled) doesn't last as long as something like Andromeda?

The basic premise of the show was actually pretty cool, and I think it would've made for an awesome Star Trek show, if you had a good cast and nabbed some of the DS9 guys to produce and write it.

I agree that the first 1.5 seasons were very promising and then the show went into the dumper.....I did meet a lot of nice people on the original Slipstreambbs.
I started over there also. What took you so long to transfer here if I may ask?

After 1.5 all I cared about was how the Tyr storyline would go. After a while I gave up looking for his episodes. Last time I saw the show Rommie wasn't even on it

I was frozen in time on the event horizon of a blackhole until just recently and quickly made my way here. :)

I forget which number episode it was but when Trance got her tail shot off that was when I lost hope for the series.

tried to watch the first season then just got bored with it. never really got into it, just seemed there was something 'missing' from it.

Oh, man! Slipstream BBS! I forgot all about that place! I posted like crazy there. It was so cool to actually get to post with and interact with the writers, particularly Ashley Edward Miller. Love that guy! In a cool way. ;)

I guess I gave it a chance because Babylon 5, Crusade, and DS9 had ended, Even though Farscape was on and Enterprise came a year later there was a void in space exploration sci-fi. By the middle of the season and all season 2 Andromeda was showing potential. Then of course RHW left the show and by the middle of season 3 it began to suffer and would never recover.

Gene produced the seed the others grew, like Rod Serling's Twilight Zone or Chris Carter's X-Files. It also counts somewhat that his wife Majel Barrett Roddenbury produced the show. I'm sure RHW could have used his creative ideas on another show he completely created himself but using the name and production that started Star Trek in a time when greenlighting space exploration shows was not so popular that name was thought to help obtain fans.

I would also speculate that since Andromeda Strain was a popular named sci-fi creation, saying Gene Roddenbury's Andromeda helped clarify what was being presented.

The final season of Andromeda was some of the worst television ever made.

My cousin wrote for the show early on, but got out before it turned to shit.

Even given the faults it has as-is, Andromeda is still a fairly entertaining series. Not high art or anything, but not a bad way to spend time in front of the tube

Agreed:) Andromeda is good entertainment and i confess that im a big fan of the show.
I like the general look of the show and some of the characters are cool, especially Rommie and Tyr And Kevin Sorbo is not a bad actor, fits well to the role of Dylan Hunt.
I recently bought the season five because it was on sale. It was often very painful to watch:wtf:. The planet setting was boring, including the stupid bar, and one really missed Lexa Doig and the Andromeda...plus all the flashy space action/adventure. Also some of the writing was utterly horrible. The last five or so episodes where better thankfully, even though the finale left much to be desired.
I watched some episodes of season two that i had not seen before and the difference to season five in quality is huge in a positive way:techman: Just ordered season three, im curious to see how it will be:lol:...

I believe Lexa Goig was pregnant during the last season of the show that's why you didn't see her much. You can kind of see a double chin porking out when you seen her in those head shots during the last seasonl

Definitely my favorite guilty pleasure show!

I agree with JRS, the show could definitely entertain. It was "Leave-Your-Brain-at-the-Door-Popcorn-Fun". I found it a nice alternative to Enterprise during its first 2 seasons, which was sooooooo dry and serious.

As has been stated elsewhere in this thread, season one and 2.5 were very, very good. The remainder of season 2 was pretty good as the writers continued many of the story ideas started by Wolfe, up until the season finale.

Season 3 pretty much ignored the Magog/Abyss storyline until the last 4 episodes when the writers had to deal with Keith Hamilton Cobb's contract expiring and write him out of the show.

Season 4 saw the return of the Magog/Abyss storyline, though in the very different fashion than originally imagined by Wolfe.

Season 5 saw production company behind Andromeda going bankrupt, thus the slash in budget and the introduction of the planet bound Seefra storyline.
And yes, Lexa Doig was pregnant during this period, thus her absence from most of the season.

On the whole, it was a very uneven show that never had a chance to reach it's potential due to corporate interference (a trait of all Tribune produced TV shows) but it was a crazy-ass show at times, not afraid of wild big ideas.

For those interested it how the show would have developed if Wolfe had remained in charge should read his short story entitled "CODA"

RHW created every aspect of the show. Gene a scribble writer, a passing thought in the show, and he doesn't even know how to spell Andromeda...Of course RHW was the only one we can credit with creating the show and he also designed the ship, did the makeup, etc., He was the man!!! and I have seen the error of my ways.

Sarcasm is not a substitute for reason.
