Never seen TOS scenes...again....

Nifty. Wouldn't he probably be wearing command gold, though? I could see him staying at helm and still being XO.

Yeah, I haven't yet found a good image with a gold command shirt for a proper match, lighting wise. Officers do cross train... I figured this is a possibility where Mr. Mitchell gets into the sciences after being at the helm for a year or two. :)

Yeah, I think Mitchell staying on would have been an interesting way for the show to go. :techman:

Neat! I agree.

I wonder, in that scenario, if the navigator's station might have retained fire control and perhaps gained the pop-up scope later on, with Sulu keeping actual steering abilities?

I could also see Mitchell forming a sort of quartet with the Kirk-Spock-McCoy relationship - Mitchell could take on some of the confidante roles from both characters, with Spock and McCoy retaining a more straight-laced version of their 'logic' and 'emotion' personifications, respectively.

I bet no-one has seen that on TOS ...

Gah! It took me a minute to get what was going on there.

Niiiiiiice. :D

Same here. I was looking at the image on the viewscreen.

NCC-1701 is just that good. ;)

Come to think of it, wouldn't a bridge with turbolift doors flanking the viewscreen make a lot of sense? The captain would have a clear view of the comings and goings, and anyone they happened to be talking to wouldn't see if there was sneakiness going on.

Aww, thanks. Now I'm blushing ...

Speaking in-universe, yes, that would be more practical, I suppose. But looking at it from a TV show perspective, I guess it's better to have the main character and the door in one frame. I also requires fewer camera set ups and saves production time.

By the way, Praetor, at the moment I'm writing probably the longest PM I've ever written. ;)

Television practicality? What's that? :p

Yay. :)

I just realize that I feel like we have hijacked poor Warped9's thread with our Gary Mitchells and double bridge doors...

Ooh, much better. I like. Is that Kirk's body?
Thanks. :) Yep, that's Shatner's body. It looked like a close enough match, including lighting angles.

Whooh, crazy photoshop skills! Nice work.
Thanks! I learned a few more tricks in Photoshop recently that have made things much easier. :)

Yeah, WNMHGB had to have a dramatic ending and kill off Mitchell... I wish that hadn't been the case, that they found an alternative way to do it and keep Mitchell alive. Lockwood's career never really took off, despite landing the role of Poole on 2001. He had bit parts scattered across the landscape of TV. A recurring role on Star Trek would probably have been welcomed.

NCC-1701, that's a great photoshop job! I missed it at first, focusing on the view screen and Kirk's position. That's because your editing is seamless. :)

Didn't the blueprints show two turbolifts to the bridge? I think it looks great there, except I'd do away with the ship diagram (there should be only one, at the primary turbolift). They could have made a dummy turbolift, with fixed doors. Although that would have probably complicated matters in a few scenes, where you'd say "Hey, why didn't they just use the other turbolift?"

Although Mitchell was capable, McCoy and Scotty never felt at peace without Kirk at con.

Those are all really good, Gary7. I too have often wondered what it would have been like if Gary Mitchell had either 'come back to his senses' completely, or they had found a way to reverse what had happened. How would he have dealt with the guilt over what he had done, particularly killing poor Kelso? It might have been quite compelling.

As for Lockwood, I feel bad his career didn't take off more. I once briefly saw him at a convention when I was a kid. We didn't wait in line for an autograph because my parents were impatient to leave, but I did glimpse him and he seemed to be cordial with the fans he was speaking with, and was still recognizable. Older, but recognizable.

One minor quibble:

I think the redness in Gary's face needs to be taken up just a bit to better match the skin color of the hands and of everyone else around.
