Has The Cage ever been shown on TV?

I know The Cage was first shown on TV as part of the special 'The Star Trek Saga: From One Generation to the Next' in October 1988. But has it ever been shown after that, like an ordinary episode of TOS? I wouldn't know because I only ever watched TOS on video.

I've read that a partially black-and-white version of The Cage was released on VHS in 1986. If this is true, then 1986 would be the true release date of The Cage. But I can't find any information about this supposed video tape anywhere. It's not on eBay or Amazon.com. Does anyone know where I can find information about it?

If the link doesn't work, you may need to add a " ) " to the end of the URL.

It's true. I've got a re-release of that one. It's in a box in my garage. It has an intro from Gene R. shot on the movie sets. Looks like it was around the time of Trek 2 or 3.

I remember you got it as a pay-per-view bonus if you ordered the movie April Fool's Day. Had the introduction from Roddenberry and was only partially in color.

"The Cage" was released in a BW/Color composite version on LaserDisc and videotape in 1986, and was run in syndication in the United States in an all-color version in 1988 as part of the "Star Trek: From One Generation To The Next" special.

As far as I know, "The Cage" has never been shown as a "regular" Trek episode, though it's included on the DVDs.

I have the VHS copy of the Cage on now stored on my computer, waiting for the remastered version to air, I think its in May (I could be wrong) .

Yeah, an edited/truncated version of "The Cage" was a part of the syndicated package in my viewing area for years. Then it was aired on Sci-Fi from 1998-2000 as part of the digitally remastered "Special Edition" run of the series.

Do you know where I can find this video tape, or at least a picture of it?

Star Trek has not run in sydication (this even pains me to type this) in the NYC metro area since the late 80's or early 90's.... I think it was the late 80's...but I've never seen the cage on TV as a regular ep.

Regular syndication of "old" TOS ended in my area in the late 90s right as Sci-Fi won the rights to air the series in its digitally remastered, uncut format in 1998. Until TOS-R premiered in September 2006, not a single syndicated rerun of the old show aired on a local station for eight whole years.

We finally got TOS-R around here last year. It is on at 2 am on the weekends. DVR comes in very handy. The last time we had TOS was the mid 80's.

Roanoke(VA) gets two TOS-R episodes per weekend. At 1:30AM on Saturday night/Sunday morning on our Fox affiliate. And then at 11 AM the very next morning on the CW channel.

Interesting detail in the "Cage Remastered" effects footage linked to above - they added an Okudagram-looking control panel into the previously featureless turbolift that an extra is seen entering, just after the CG footage of Pike's bridge fades into the original live action.

It looks like they may have reworked the CG bridge footage from the Remastered "Menagerie" version - the transition from CG to live seems a little less noticable here.

Oh yeah...that's right...it was right when Sci-Fi network was born and I remember thinking this is it!!! Trek finally has a real home now and it did......for awhile...why don't they air the original at all...I mean damn not even once a week?

TV Land was airing it daily at 11:00pm then they moved it to 12 and then they moved it to...you get the picture. That's how I found this board in the first place; i was trying to start a rally and get everybody to send them an email and sign my petition but I was really ripped a new one for trying to organize that. I was surprised because I thought trek fans stuck together but I digress...

Yeah we have it on channel 11 sat night used to be 12:00 but recently got pushed back to one. I'm really TIRED OF TREK NOT GETTING THE F'ING RESPECT THAT IT DAMN WELL DESERVES!

I saw the very first complete airing of the color version on TV in 1988. I believe it aired again on the sci-fi channel in the 2000s.
