How do we know it's Delta-Vega?

What's wrong with a lithium cracking station being on Delta Vega? For all we know lithium was used before dilithium in antimater reactors, or the cracking process might be a step in converting lithium to dilithium, or the lithium might be used for something else entirely.

CRA - You've said that so much and backed it up so little its lost all meaning. You're just making a stereotype out of yourself. Twerps? They got $150 million and huge support for this movie. What have you ever put forth into Trek lore?

What have you?
Nothing much at all - but I'm not the one knocking this movie across the board and calling the people in charge twerps without ever having seen it. Firing my own question back at me is a sure sign of someone with no answers and no rational basis for any of his arguments. If you took the time to explain why you think they're wrong (without ever having seen anything of the movie), that at least would be something.

End of rant and off-topic discussion.

So, back to my point: Why do so many here think that lithium HAS to be dilithium? Isn't it reasonable to think they might need lithium for something in the 23rd century, or that they used it before dilithium, or that you need the one to make the other?

I agree with you in principle, but just for the sake of clarity, it might make sense to keep it as dilithium. If you want an in-universe explanation, it could be that lithium and dilithium are interchangeable terms, at least at the time, since what is dilithium but lithium anyhow.

What is lithium?

Lithium affects the flow of sodium through nerve and muscle cells in the body. Sodium affects excitation or mania.
Lithium is used to treat the manic episodes of manic depression. Manic symptoms include hyperactivity, rushed speech, poor judgment, reduced need for sleep, aggression, and anger. It also helps to prevent or lessen the intensity of manic episodes.
Lithium may also be used for other purposes not listed.
[Bold highlights added by me for emphasis.]
Hmmm... perhaps Lithium should be used on TrekBBS more often...

^ All of those refer to lithium salts and other chemical compounds, not to lithium the metallic element. And let's not get into anything like suggesting treatments for other posters, okay? (And especially not by using images in your post with nasty ad links behind them, which practice is strongly discouraged by TrekBBS policy.)

well know we know why kirk knew so much about some out of the way planet..

KIRK: If you mean strand Mitchell there, I won't do it. That station is fully automated. There's not a soul on the whole planet. Even the ore ships call only once every twenty years

;)

Wow, Scotty really must have pissed off Admiral Archer when he vaporized his dog...
