Top 50 Science Fiction Television Shows of all time...

well if Sliders was in the top ten then they clearly didn't know their sci fi. Slider was mediocre as was the Outer Limits, both shows shouldn't feature at all. I think the list though more than anything says a lot about the poor quality of sci fi. I mean you'd have to include a lot of crap shows just to get it to 50.

From That List

came back in 2003 WRONG 2005 and they do not mention it is the LONGEST Running SHOW in Sci-Fi

Number 8

'Dr. Who'

No sci-fi show list is complete without "Dr. Who." The series started in 1963 and featured several men as the doctor - a time traveling, eccentric alien - and his comrades. Sure, many of the monsters were terribly cheesy, but it is a classic nonetheless. The show was canceled in 1989, made a brief return in a TV movie in 1996 and then was fully resurrected and came back into production in 2003. It continues today.

This forum has named a lot of shows that were not mentioned. There is a lot of sci-fi that could be counted that were not American originated as well.

Some of the shows aren't even sci fi, I mean the Man from Uncle, The Avengers and The Jetsons (the inclusion of the last does no service to the genre), what? And wheres Red Dwarf and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

I think the simple fact that DS9 was left completely off the list points out how worthless the list is - whoever compiled it had no idea what they were talking about.

Pretty much. Lists are entirely subjective of course, and this one had some good stuff in it. But including the (thoroughly mediocre) VOY and no DS9 in sight? Loses all credibility.

Well, I agree except that I don't think Voyager was "incredibly mediocre" - it does belong on the list. But DS9 certainly does as well, and it should be higher than Voyager, and Dr. Who should be there too.

It's a horrible list.

The list is a joke, VOY at #14? and no DS9? I mean I liked nuBSG for the first two seasons and loved EJO as Adama, but come on? Number one of ALL TIME?

Hardly!

I've been a fan of Science Fiction for almost 40 years now, the list had zero credibility, it had some great shows on it but in the incredibly wrong order.

No offense but how does DS9 and Farscape not even make a list that had VOY at #14?

meh

Any such list that doesn't feature The Twilight Zone in the top three isn't legit to me.

My own initial knee-jerk reaction was similar - but is it really sci-fi ? I don't think so. It's probably best described as an anthology series, mostly fantasy with elements of sci-fi, horror, comedy, drama, morality-tales and so on depending on the episode.

The Avengers had killer robots, heck yeah it's sci-fi. Just the psychedelic kind :)

Yeah, you are probably right. The Twilight Zone was all of this, and so much more. Maybe it's just that I think The Twilight Zone should be in the top three of any best series list. ;) :D

Yep, on this we are agreed. One of my all-time favourites as well.

Hmm. A couple things.

First of all, the list is misleading... it's not just sci-fi shows. It also includes fantasy shows, animated series, and superhero/comic book stuff.

Second, although the list itself is not bad... the order is highly debateable. And there are some odd omissions:

* Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (actually mentioned in the same page as B5 but no place on the list??)
* Farscape
* Red Dwarf
* Angel (they mentioned Buffy and Angel is just as good, if not better)
* Robotech/Macross
* Neon Genesis Evangelion
* Transformers G1 (they had the Jetsons...)

And if you are including stuff based on comic books, like Wonder Woman then you should also mention-

* The Incredible Hulk (live action)
* Batman: The Animated Series
* Justice League
* Smallville (possibly... at least it's better than Lois & Clark, imo)
* X-Men: TAS

Probably some other anime could go on there as well.

:shrug:

If they make a list like that, they need to be more specific about what they consider sci-fi. Or divide it up into categories...
