Are you shitting me? No Gary Mitchell in this film?

:guffaw:
God, that's funny!

true! :lol::lol:

We're not entirely sure he ISN'T in the movie. Besides, who knew Quark had a deleted cameo at the end of INSURRECTION until after the movie came and went? Or that Wesley was at Deanna and Will's wedding at the start of NEMESIS until someone pointed him out? Maybe Gary's there and just a quick canonical bone/afterthought?

I'm pretty sure that while NEM was in production, I'd heard that both Kate Mulgrew and Wil Wheaton would make cameos... and that made me cringe.

I cannot stop thinking about how Spock would reply to the question: "Are you shitting me?"

I assure you, I am not "shitting" you. :guffaw:

Anyway, they aren't shitting you either. It's too early for him.

Actually, Mitchell has a pivotal role in this movie. You see, as a young boy, he and his father were at the bottom of this cliff studying geology when a classic car comes out of nowhere and lands on them. Quite tragic.

I'd rather watch a movie than a fanboy checklist.

That "Of Gods and Men" fan film, during Uhura's opening narration, she goes out of her way to say where Spock, McCoy, Scotty and Sulu are since they're not in the movie. That's what I think of when I think of the fanboy checklist.

Maybe Finnegan locked poor Gary in a locker for the film?

Practical Joker that he is :p

Now Finnegan would've been hilarious to have been included in the film :)

(Still prefer this Academy look to the Red Janitor Jumpsuits :) )

I'm presuming Kirk and Gary never meet and Gary never serves as his First Officer in this version of Trek.

Nor does Gary steer him towards that "little blond lab assistant" he "almost married"...

I've always taken that to be a certain (future doctor) Carl Marcus...

(I was *so* hoping the chick from "House" who is playing Kirk's *mother* had instead played Carol M... :( )

So in this "life"...does Kirk ever have a son for the Klingon's to kill...?

In WNMHGB Kirk says he requested Mitchell for his first command. So far as we know, for most of the movie, Kirk is not Captain of the Enterprise. He takes command when needed, but he is not the Commander in an official capacity yet. When Starfleet officially gives him command, probably at the end of the movie, he probably will request that Mitchell replace Sulu at the Helm, since Sulu will move to the astrophysics department. This could set up Mitchell to be a major player in the sequel.:techman:

But whether JJ will do this or not, who knows? I wouldn't mind seeing that, but it doesn't make a difference to me. I, too, hate the idea of a "fanboy checklist."

I watched WNMHGB the other day, and I do think that a full scale, big screen remake of that episode might make a good sequel. I would probably change the title though.:shifty:

He should of ABSOLUTELY been included or referenced in the film! Didn't they go to the academy together?? See little touches like this would appease the hardcore TOS fans....but that Abrams guy et al are fools.

And What has this abrams guy really done anyway that he should be allowed to - pardon the pun - take the helm of the movie??? WHAT HAS HE DONE????

I need answers dammit! LOL

people complain about the texture of the uniforms but..
look above..

In the non-canon young adult novels written in the 90s, the glittery look of 2250s era Academy tunics was explained as being a tip of the hat to the way sunlight glints off San Francisco Bay next to the campus. A sparkly water effect turned into fabric. I was hoping some of these shirts would appear in the new movie in some form, but who knows. Maybe the red jumpsuits are work/study wear for classes involving anything physical or strenuous while pullover shirts can be worn in other settings?

Or that Wesley was at Deanna and Will's wedding at the start of NEMESIS until someone pointed him out?

Everyone knew about Wesley in Nemesis. I remember looking for him during the wedding scene when I saw the movie in theatres.

I was a latecomer to that news to be honest. I hear a rumor Wheaton might show up in the movie, but someone squelched it for me and I didn't pay it any more heed until a friend went to see the film and said "Wesley is at the head table at the wedding!"

It was common knowledge he was going to be there and you had to pretty much make an effort to not know about it.

Wheaton bragged about the cameo and how Nemesis was going to be AMAZING. Everyone talked about how Nemesis was amazing.

Just two articles for years gone by.

The build up, the plot and everything else is like deja vu for Abrams trek. So sad how people forget so soon about recent history.
