But if the story were hugh enough, something everyone whose seen any of TNG Era Series would have to go see at any cost, it could work.

Well then, in the immortal words of Roseanne Roseannadanna; Never mind.
But in case anyone's still interested, I've been wondering, () what kind of story it could be and the only thing I can think of that Might be HUGH enough is, hold on to your butts; one that completely ends the TNG Era of canon! (GASP!)

Now you really got me hooked... Tell me more!
Though logical, I really don't want story's which show legions of unknown Scientists & Engineers from every planet in the Federation rushing to solve the danger, the characters we know and love have to be the ones dealing with issues otherwise, who cares?
And Shatner/Nimoy are usually the first names people think of when you say Kirk/Spock or TOS. I'm still not sure if this movie will really generate that amount of interest outside Trekdom. A post Nemesis movie with a mixed crew from TNG/DS9/Voyager and a really strong story might have been more successful because of the familiar faces and surroundings. XI has practically nothing to do with TOS, except for the names of the characters and the name of the ship. I guess we'll have to wait how it turns out ...
EM) You know, you got me thinking; with a 150 million dollar budget something like that just might work.
nah. we've effectively missed the boat with TNG-related stuff. it's no longer a viable vehicle. if anything does it, it'll be TOS.

i miss hugh. that guy and geordi made a dynamite team... dudes with funky eyes.
i think the biggest story is always EARTH IS GONNA BE DESTROYED!!1!
it was done in TMP, implied in TWOK, done in IV, done in FC... i forget what the scimitar was all about... was that about earth blowing upping too?that's what they're doing in this new movie anyways
anyways, "the world is not enough." we need captain kirk.
Drawing from my own experiences, nobody outside Star Trek fandom even remembers that DS9 or VOY ever existed and those people who have actually heard about TNG and its subsequent movies make this strange retching gesture when you mention Picard or Data or Worf. In my books, that's not the proper foundation for a 'more successful' movie.
Well, things must be going quite different between Germany and America... the theaters have been hearing a lot about people being excited for this movie, and a lot of my non-Trekkie friends and their non-Trekkie fans are real excited for it. Right now, it's building up for a helluva showing in this part of the world.Besides, we here on the BBS may be all excited for the new movie, but (at least) here in Germany the general public has ever heard of it. Whenever I mention it, people look at me with strange faces and groan about the idea of a TOS remake. I really never got any positive reaction from anyone. If this movie is going to be successful here, they should start a massive marketing campaign and they should do it now!
I'd take an original TNG era cast over a TOS recast/reimagening anytime...
... and I think that the average moviegoer would agree with me.
It would have been a very strong story and a big budget, though. I really don't want to see another Nemesis. I also think that the TNG crew should make only cameo appearences, leaving the main part to younger people. Don't tell me it couldn't work!

It wouldn't work. No-one wants to see a movie with new characters set in the 24th century. I concur, many people might remember Picard, Sisko or Janeway and connect them with Star Trek, I often encountered that in Germany (especially Voyager seems to have a huge fanbase here, probably due to its extensive exposure on TV in the 90s). But you can't deny that almost everyone thinks of Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise when you ask them about Star Trek. Practically everyone knows these characters and attributes them to Star Trek, even in Germany. Who wants to see a Star Trek movie about a bunch of unknowns?Don't tell me it couldn't work!
Really, that's not the reaction I am getting from people. Many friends – even extreme non-fans who would normally never go to any sci-fi movie – have come to me and told me about this trailer they saw in the theatre. An equal amount of people has told me that they will see it. Granted, this movie won't be as big as The Dark Knight, but many Germans will go see it. At least that's my impression. And regarding the marketing campaign, I guess the new movie will probably get more extensive media exposure when we get closer to the premiere.Besides, we here on the BBS may be all excited for the new movie, but (at least) here in Germany the general public has ever heard of it. The slash/slash/slash scenario is fanboy mentality and would appeal to no-one but said fanboy. Sisko returning to assist Riker and Voyager in the defence against a new Borg/Dominion alliance? Do you seriously think such an endeavor would make a *dent* in what something like Transformers 2 is expected to pull in?
Or the fanboy idea of Spock needing help from Data, Picard, Geordi, and Worf to stop a massive star from going supernova and destroying the universe? And, a villain Romulan whose ship will apparently be given Borg nano-technology? Anyone want to take bets on the appearance of the Titan in Countdown #4?
Good thing none of that's in the movie, then.
