I've been fortunate enough to meet Mr. Nimoy twice, and he was wonderful both times. The first time was at a convention in Scranton, PA, just before Star Trek V came out, and I was so star-struck I barely got any words out. Happily, I had another chance about nine years ago when the DVDs of The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home first came out, and Mr. Nimoy did a signing at the Virgin Megastore. Not only did he sign my DVDs, he also signed (and personalized!) my first printing of I Am Not Spock. I told him, "I know you get this all the time, but I just want to tell you that if it weren't for your character, I wouldn't have got through my adolescence." He smiled, said "Thank you, thank you very much," and shook my hand.

I haven't met Shatner either, but I've been told by people who have that how he behaves depends on how you approach him, and that he responds much less well to geeking out (which is entirely understandable).

The one person who had the most effect on my adolescence is Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock, but he is one of the few Trek actors I have never met.
I've had long friendships with George Takei and Jimmy Doohan who helped me survive my brief foray into Hollywood and Trek business. Ms. Roddenberry was also a gracious lady. :adore: I miss drinking with Jimmy and swapping war stories...
Shatner, however... well I'm trying to be polite tonight as I'm fighting the flu. :(

ME!!! He's a tycoon! he took Hollywood but the balls and put it in his back poket like a checkbook. He's very cool!

His performance with Q was fantastic...

Has a signed pic with all but Majel Barrett for Original Series.

And all NG cast except with Weenie Wil Wheaton (refused to sign any autographs the little shithead)

Is a trekkie to the end!

Giving this a little bump as Avery Brooks is also attending. I'm struggling with myself whether to get his autograph as well or not, and possibly a photoshoot. I really like what I've seen DS9 so far. If I become an even bigger fan and had this chance to get an autograph from Sisko himself and screweed it up, I'd be kicking myself to sleep for the rest of my life.

So has anyone met Avery Brooks as well? He seems like a cool guy.

For the record, the Borg Queen & Garak from DS9 will be attending as well, they're not very interesting to me though.

^I met Brooks briefly at the last Dragon*Con. We just shook hands in passing outside of the hotel restaurant as I thanked him for his work. He was casually friendly, and cool. However, I noticed the moment I grasped his hand that his hand(s) were shaking. My buddy went to his table the day before to get a pic signed, and he said Brooks visually seemed to struggle getting his autograph down. He messed up at one point, took the standard pic that my buddy had asked for, and crumpled it up tossing it behind him, saying "It's okay...they're mine". He then smiled, and took another copy of the same pic and began signing with a "Let's try that again". He said he didn't smell any alcohol or anything on him. For years now, I've theorized that Brooks is gay. I could be wrong, but the obvious symptoms he was showing reminded me of what it looks like for someone to have to deal with an AIDS "cocktail". Now, I could be incredibly off-base here, but I wouldn't doubt that might be a reason. Could just be something much simpler, though...

Met him back in the early 70s, at the grand opening of a J.C.Penny's in Indianapolis, where he was touring to promote one of his record albums, and a book of poetry. Met him again roughly 20 years later at a Starbase Indy convention. (Any Indianapolis fans remember what year that was?)

Erm, it's unlikely that Brooks is gay. He's been married to a woman for decades. :)

That's not to say that your inference about him being on an AIDS cocktail is necessarily wrong, but there are any number of conditions that could lead to the symptom you describe -- from something as mundane as low blood sugar to something as serious as Parkinson's disease.

If you're becoming a DS9 fan, get Garak/Andy Robinson's 'graph as well. He grows into a fun and interesting character in the later seasons.

Ditto. Brooks is 60 (IMDb puts his birthday as 10/2/48), so it could be just age creeping up on him. Hell, his hands could have been shaking because he had too much coffee (raktajino?) before signing.

Yeah, I absolutely agree it could be anything, the cocktail was the first thing that struck me, though. And, I didn't realize he was married, either. So, who knows? Could have been coffee, pain killers, Parkinson's, anything.

However, no matter what, he was cool to me... :)

I got to meet Leonard Nimoy last month when he came to Austin's Alamo Drafthouse - South Lamar for the unofficial world premiere of Star Trek (2009).

It was very brief, but I did get him to put a scrawled signature on my reserved seat sign, which was awesome.

I didn't try to shake his hand or anything, 'cause we were in pretty close quarters and he & the movie's writers were tryin' to get to the stage as the credits rolled.

You were just all kinds of win/win that weekend, eh?

You should hunt down Nimoy, slam him against a wall and scream "Where the fuck are my pens, you brilliant actor bastard!"

    Or something like that.

Ahhh...another fan from Indy. Live long and prosper my friend.

I met Nimoy at that Starbase Indy con...was it late 70s??? Early 80s??? I honestly cannot remember, so if you find out let me know! He was delightful and quite pleasant.

I also remember meeting Mark Lenard a couple times, once in Chicago and once in Indy - not only was he a handsome devil, incredibly elegant and well spoken - but also quite the sweetest, most considerate actor I think I've ever met at a con.

I've known Bill Shatner for around 15+ years through the Saddlebred horse industry. Bill is...just Bill. (Ahem). I actually get along with him pretty well. His wife Liz (nee Anderson) was a country neighbor of mine up in Boone County and is a super gal, gorgeous and a former horse trainer. Showing horses is something Bill does for fun, to get away from show biz and fan pressure. He and Liz have their show string stabled in Kentucky so they frequently have horses competing at the All AMerican Classic, a show I manage in Indianapolis.
