Trailer 3: Audience Reaction

I've seen Watchmen twice*, and the reaction to the new trailer left me cautiously optimistic. People commenting on the new Spock and making grudging statements like "actually, that might be decent."

I just wanted to report, I just came back from seeing "Knowing" and they played the full Trailer 3 of Star Trek in our theater here in Boone, NC. There wasn't much said though, I think I overheard someone in the audience say that looks "pretty good" but that's all I could hear.
Movie culture just isn't what it used to be. Everyone these days waits for the DVD or Blue-Ray to come out so they can watch it at home. You hardly ever see packed cinemas anymore, at least not like you used to, years ago.
I expect nowdays that home DVD & Blue-Ray sales (and rentals), globally, must account for much more of the money they make back than it did in the first few years of the video-tape revolution. And on top of that, illegal/unlicensed divx downloads are creeping into that profit in much the same way that mp3 filesharing was beginning to hurt CD sales a few years ago.

Not me, although I tend to reserve buying a movie ticket for films which lose something when viewed on a small screen - namely big, visually awe-inspiring sci-fi, fantasy, and action/adventure movies.

Do what I have done, purchase a HD projector! I now have an 80" Screen in a small living room! If your room is bigger then simply buy a bigger screen.
HD projectors start at about 350GBP on ebay for a used one or 500GBP for a new one. Best purchase I've ever made! No need to go to the cinema now! (Except for Star Trek)

It still isn't the same. Sure technology has made it where you can have a visually beautiful home viewing experience. But nothing, nothing beats the atmosphere of a packed theatre with fans eager to see and enjoy a film.
Of course thats rare, for a movie going experience, but it does happen and when it does its magical.
If I can get even a third of the group excitement that I got seeing the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (especially when they aired all in one day, that was the best experience sore ass and all) then it would easily beat the best home experience I have ever had.
The downside is that the reverse is also true, I have had horrible experiences at the movies as well.
