The only part that seemed '70s to me was the medical uniform with the wide colar and lapels, which was like a futuristic leisure suit.
I too think these are the best of the Trek movies uniforms, second only to TOS uniforms. I never really cared much for the TWOK uniforms, they look ugly to me and seem as though they would be unecessarily hot and uncomfortable, especially in the climate-controlled environment aboard a starship.
That's what I'm talking about! Even that muted red color for the turbolift doors adds a splash of color to the film's pallette.
Something unusual. Perhaps after Vger was dealt with the ship got its refit completed and more colour was added.
Excellent damage control on your part, addressing how screwed up that set was in TMP. Mike Minor always mentioned how Kirk's quarters were really ruined by the TMP art dept, and I guess that is the aluminum standard for messing up trek design (up until May 09.)
What were some of the things that Minor said were screwed up for TMP? I know very little (read: nothing) about Minor's opinions of TMP.
I must say, as I always do in these threads, that the TMP uniforms were just dreadful, bland space pajamas with footies. Ridiculous! The only uniforms I liked from TMP are Kirk's admiral uniform -- too bad he couldn't have worn a captain's variant of that -- the engineering coveralls, used in the later films, and how Spock's collared tunic underneath his uniform top would've been a vast improvement if they all wore something like it underneath their uniforms. I much prefer the colors and cut of the TWOK-TUC uniforms, esp. as they had black pants and boots. Although of those, my favorite version is the more "casual" jacket variant that Scotty mostly wore, and Kirk wore at least once in TFF. The flapjacket tunic did seem more like a dress uniform. And the less said about the landing party parkas, the better! Also, I liked how the jackets evoked The Cage landing party jackets. Another thing I noticed is that in the old VHS packaging for TMP, there's a group shot of the crew, and Decker is wearing a golden uniform rather than the grey one seen in the film. Anyone here know anything about that? Red Ranger
