I'm new to TrekBBS, and I'm sure a thread about this novel has come and gone many times over ... but since I couldn't find one, I thought I'd ask for someone to point me in the right direction.

Articles of the Federation is pretty much solidly tied for my favorite Trek novel. What better thing to merge with Trek than The West Wing? And who better to do it than KRAD?

Am I right, people of the BBS? :techman:

Heh, I liked Articles, it was pretty good. The only character I disliked was Jas....

Articles of the Federation is one of the best trek novels i've ever read. I'm a huge fan of the West Wing, and I thought the merger was an inspired notion. A Singular Destiny, also by KRAD and also dealing with Alpha Quadrant politics is a worthy "almost-sequel". Nan Bacco is one of the best trek-lit only characters out there :techman:

I to liked the Trek mix with The West Wing. Now we just need to get KRAD to do an Enterprise era prequel that is Trek mixed with Yes Minister :p

United Earth Interior Minister Haroun al-Rashid constantly butting heads with the Interior Ministry's Permanent Secretary? Or maybe Prime Minister Nathan Samuels dealing with his Cabinet Secretary? Much love either way. :)

Why would a Vulcan be a senior civil servant in the United Earth government prior to Federation?

Why would a Vulcan be Science Officer and First Officer of an Earth Ship Prior to the Federation? Stranger things have happened :)

Not really. Militaries have exchange programs in the real world. But to be a senior civil servant in the UE government, that Vulcan would have had to have been working for the UE government for decades -- which alone seems unlikely given Vulcan's attitude towards Earth prior to the rise of T'Pau -- and it seems highly unlikely that the UE government would allow a foreign national that kind of power and responsibility within its civil service.

It would be a bit like the UK hiring a Russian to serve as Permanent Secretary for one of their major ministries just a few years after the Cold War, really. Or, actually, I suppose a better analogy might be a Ugandan citizen serving as Permanent Secretary just a few years after re-approachment.

Fair point, well all I really meant in the first place that I could easily compare him to the Vulcans in Ent, giving humans the run-around and what not

I think it is time for KRAD to do a follow up of AOTF. That is my .02 -- I loved it!

^ Sadly, two cents is a bit below the standard advance KRAD gets for a new novel. :p

Whatever happened to all that "Save Enterprise" money? Since they didn't need it for that...

I loved Ariticles. And now that I've watched West Wing (thank you Bravo) I can finally see why everone compares it to that so much.

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster

I have looked for this book everywhere, and had no luck. Living in Scotland, does anyone know where I could get my hands on a copy. I have all the TNG re-launch/Titan books covering 2380, and this is the only one missing from the time-line of essential reading according to Memory Beta. Amazon and Play only have it going as used and over-priced.

    Much appreciated.
