I am bunnysitting this week for a neighbor....

and I feel like I should take some time to play with him a little bit so he doesn't get lonely while the owner is away. Are there any constructive ways to play with a bunny that hops about the house all day?

Hasenpfeffer.

And, right about now I imagine you're giving your monitor the same dirty look my wife gives me when I joke like that about our Holland Lop, R. Sebastian Bach. I assure you, I'm just kidding. :D

We've had Sebastian for a while, and while I like him, I'm just not sure bunnies are smart enough to much care. We run him around the house, pet him, and sometimes I'll make predator bird noises and swoop down at him quickly - but I don't seem to activate the instinct I'm going for, he just mostly ignores me.

This page purports to advise you how to play with a bunny, but my experience has not been consistent with this. Maybe larger breeds are more intelligent.

We have gotten Sebastian two dog-friendly companions (he wore the first one out), a squirrel, and then a turtle. He likes to push them around and hump them.

I imagine as long as you give him plenty of room and time to exercise, anything else is up to what you want to do, really.

We had rabbits for years when I was growing up. I find that they generally don't like to be picked up, snuggled, or petted/manhandled the way a dog or a cat might. Well, at least none of the ones we had did. Our rabbits loved cardboard, and an assortment of cardboard rolls from paper towels or toilet paper and cardboard boxes were hours of entertainment for them. They liked to burrow and root in them, making nests. Rabbits are social, so if Mr. Bun is used to having a person around, then maybe just hanging around for a little while with him will keep him from being lonely.

I raised rabbits for about 10 years or so. There's no real way in my experience to play with rabbits. You can take it out and hold a bit, but the main interaction is either just petting it or watching it do its own thing. If it has a cage that it lives in, you can get some dangly wood toys to hang from the top of its cage. It may also like a cardboard tube. But, like I said, petting it and letting it do it's own thing should suffice. I'm sure the owners gave you the proper "safety course" before leaving, but I think it's worth mentioning that if you're letting it run around the house, make sure there are no cords for it to chew on. Some breeds are more prone to chewing than others, but almost all rabbits will try to chew on something that they shouldn't eventually.

I had a bunny when I was in grade school (well, he was my Uncle Mike's, but I took care of him). Basically, they just like to hop around. They don't play like cats or dogs do. When the weather was nice, I'd set up a big circle of wire fence in the yard and he'd hop around and eat grass. That made him happiest.

If you like "pellets" in your hair.... :wtf:

It's a sad day when this is a lowly post 15 of the thread, with such a perfect thread title setup. You people disappoint me greatly. Apart from MeanJoePhaser, who has earned some serious kudos. :D
Some of us are too mature for such shenanigans.

Or so I've been told, 'cause that sure as hell ain't me!
