Where should I move?

The Swedish goverment is in the process of doing what to me is the last straw. They are about to monitor, and store for indefinite time, ALL electronic information, plus they are about keep track of everyone using the cell phone companies and their access to our phones. Combine this with the shitty weather, extremely high taxes and generally poor attitude amongst people, and I sincerely wish to move from this country!

I'm a pretty liberal and non-religous guy, love warm weather, speak perfect English, and just want to live somewhere where I can be left the hell alone by the ruling goverment. Also I love muscle cars so no place where there's a silly extreme tax on V8s. And somewhere where they drive on the right side of the road.

So where should I move?

Well I'm sure you expected to hear this because of all the recent threads about it recently, but I will once again suggest California. Nothing beats our weather and car culture! I can't promise that you won't have to deal with taxes, but honestly I think you'll be having to deal with that no matter where you move. I could list the various reasons why California would be a good choice, but I'm sure you've heard them already or can look them up in the "California Sucks!" thread. :p

Oh yeah, and by right side of the road, do you mean the "right" side?

You could always move to Switzerland. Then the idiots would finally get your location right. ;)

Spot's, I am sure that whatever taxes I could handle them. I don't mind paying taxes, I just want something in return. And I don't feel like I'm getting that in this country. And yes, the right side of the road as in left and right. Couldn't handle that English craziness!

CD, I've heard stuff about Texas being very Republican, true or false?

It's true, except for Austin, which has been described to me as a "quirky little stand-out" within the state.

Another suggestion is Australia. I have never lived there or even visited, but it sounds like such an awesome place! If I were to move to another country that would definitely be my choice. Plus, their National Archives are very well run! Not that most people would care about that...

I've heard nice things about Canada, but I suspect it's weather to be a bit too similar to Sweden's. If I am to move it might as well be improvement on several levels.

Oho, nice. Might be on the list then.
having lived here all my life I'm obviously partial to New York State :D
Well it's got the liberal thing down, but might a bit too far north for my taste. It is on the other hand on hte east coast which would make things easier for the family staying here in Sweden to visit.

Have a friend who's been to Australia. He liked it but prefferred New Zeeland.

Keep the suggestions coming people! Not like this move is happening anytime soon so I have plenty time to think about all the suggestions.

Not Italy. Weather is nice, but taxes are high, the country is quite religious and conservative (even if in the end everybody do as they please), and everybody drives a Fiat 500. ;)

Monaco.

Depends where you live. In places like Vancouver\Victoria and Southern Ontario, the winters are probably substantially milder than Sweden. Though I can't say I've ever experienced a Swedish winter, so... :p

Sounds like a kinky sex act.

I hadn't considered it actually. I'm more fiery then the average Swede, but I could not stand the Italian mood for too long
It's the taxes thing, isn't it? Actually not too bad a suggestion, but could a regular person live there, I've gotten the impression that mostly rich people do?

Well it does matter hwere you live in Sweden as well. Mostly it's that I've had it with winter as a season. I haven't enjoyed it since I was 12.

Bow-chicka-bow-wow.

New Mexico, classic cars everywhere, lotsa cops, but it's cool unless you go looking for trouble, nice climate, good, inexpensive booze, intelligent, friendly people, yes random people will engage you in conversation, best food on earth, sexy senioritas, you can open carry firearms here, but almost nobody feels the need to, 75mph speed limits, you can go from the south valley to Santa-fe in less than two hours (140 mile drive)

I can second this nomination. I've always loved New Mexico. It's a great place to live.

That does sound pretty sweet :D
They're doing both those things in American, so my country is out of question. Don't know what to tell you.
Really? Is there no country in western world that is free of this paranoia shit? In that case I'd probably still be intrested in a move out of here, seeing as it's not the only thing but rather the last drop.
