Where should I move?

Dont come to America because you will have to pay out the butt for health care. Move to Canada. It is almost like this country except they talk funny up there and have free health care.

Let's see what we have here...

  1. A pretty liberal and non-religious guy
  2. Love warm weather
  3. Speak perfect English
  4. Want to live somewhere where I can be left the hell alone by the ruling government
  5. Love muscle cars so NO EXTREME taxes on V8's

California would be a nice fit. However, the job market there kinda sucks right now.

I can't vouch for Sephiroth's claims about New Mexico since I've never been there. It sounds nice, though.

My hometown of New Orleans would also be a good fit. The taxes are low. Our economy is doing much better than most states. To my knowledge, there are no taxes on V8 engines around here. The government won't interfere with you but, that's the only thing it does right on a consistent basis. It's also hotter than Hell almost all year 'round. So, if bad roads, bad public schools and idiotic politicians don't worry you, you'll love it here.

we have good roads, good public schools, and when it gets hot here, the humidity isn't 95% like new orleans

Well as said this isn't happening soon. I'm still in school for a few months and I'd most likely would like to save up quite a bit more then I have at the moment before doing this big a thing, so hopefully things will improve in the meantime.

The likely order will probably be this: work - save up money - go on the road trip trough the US I've been planning for a while - during that trip come closer to a decision if any of the suggested places is where I want to live - save up some more at home - move. This process is likely to a take a while.

And Sephiroth, you are definetly selling me more and more on the idea.

But hey who knows, maybe a miracle will happen and everything won't go to shit here and I won't have to move. Unlikely though.

Come to Ohio!
We're like Ireland, only with more rampant corruption and an even worse economy!

J.

^oh ya, that's they way to sell your home state

Canada man, that's where it's at! :techman:

Um, not to burst your bubble, but do look into the immigration restrictions in the US. The visa waiver program only allows you to remain in the US for 90 days and it does not allow you to work. It ain't that easy to get a green card. Unless you can get a specialty visa, you pretty much need to be sponsored by an employer or an immediate relative or spouse, and even then, the number of visas is may be limited and you could wait years to get one. You may want to look at EU countries unless you're prepared to spend a good deal of time, money and effort and exercise a great deal of patience in getting to the US.

Good luck.

Are there any game design studios there that are hiring right now? If so, I'm moving to New Mexico. I don't mind lots of humidity, either.

^ wouldn't be surprised if there were, but it's not my industry, so I don't know, and it's a dry heat here

The Swedish goverment is in the process of doing what to me is the last straw. They are about to monitor, and store for indefinite time, ALL electronic information, plus they are about keep track of everyone using the cell phone companies and their access to our phones. Combine this with the shitty weather, extremely high taxes and generally poor attitude amongst people

So where should I move?

Traitor :p

Cheap health care/education/daycare, focus on parenting, doesn't sound so bad to me at all. Okay, so you might have no need for that now. But I can tell you, it's a relief knowing all of that is covered when you're in the middle of it.

You're young, go look for an internship in some foreign country, then go backpacking through Australia. Then form a decision on what you want out of life and what will be the best option to fulfill that. I suggest staying in the EU though, when you finally decide, cuts down on the bureaucracy considerably and you can actually travel home without going broke.

it's mid-march here it's shorts weather
Agh, it's damned winter here still! I had my winter jacket on today and I still froze like hell!

Oh quit your whining. I've been here all winter and I expected much worse. The amount of times I used gloves or a scarf can be counted on one hand. The weather ain't bad at all. Try having rain and wind all the time.

I pretty much think America is the best country on Earth.. dunno about the other planets though. I live in Florida and I never plan on leaving. I think it's kind of mid-ground, in terms of politics. But then, I am a registered republican.. (though I do consider myself a conservative libertarian)

CD, I've heard stuff about Texas being very Republican, true or false?

There are lots of signs that Texas is moving more Democratic. The large Hispanic population along the border is helping that.

And Austin is a nice buffered island of progressiveness in the middle of a really fucked up state. I never leave town unless I have to.

Austin's the cool place with the good music scene too ya? If I were going to move to Texas, that's where I'd go.
