So, this 'Babylon 5' thing better be good...

Deathwalker is the episode that really got me into the series. The interplay of politics between the Alliance members, Earth and Narn was great fun. Londo's small, but very funny observations on the goings on, and of course Kosh is a plus in any episode. Jadur and those Wolf-eyes was a great piece of make-up work. All together a fun episode that was great fun.

Well I finished Season 1 last night.
I won't go through every episode, but apart from "Signs & Portents" there was a little bit of sag in the middle there, kinda mundane episodes like "TKO" & "Grail", and "By Any Means Necessary" was a poor mans BSG "Dirty Hands" ;)

But it defintely picked up for the last six episodes. "Legacies" was good although that girl was a bit of crap actress. The 2-parter was really interesting, answering questions about the planet they orbit, and "Babylon Squared" and the finale "Chrysalis" were also very enjoyable and most interesting. The Shadows look pretty cool...

I'm liking Lennier as well, helping Garibaldi build his motorbike was a laugh, and him turning how out to be this kung fu badass in "The Quality of Mercy" was hilarious

So onto Season 2. I haven't watched any yet though I know Sinclair is replaced. Without spoilers was this always planned? I know he comes back at some point but were there problems with the actor/studio or something?
He's hardly the most exciting character ever created but I grew to like him a lot by the end.

Still really a fan of Ivanova though, if I have to hear that bloody sob story about her mother and the Psi Corps one more time! She must have told it about three or four times so far
Also her catchphrase seems to be "oh well I'm Russian so..."
Yeah if you're Russian love I'm a Swiss Arab

I don't think anyone knows for sure why he left, but it wasn't planned from the beginning.

Apparently the studio hated O'Hare (Sinclair) and thought he was a wooden actor and JMS was basically told to replace him or the show was over. I can't say I disagree with them, Sheridan was a much better lead character/actor.

Yeah...that definitely happens way too much with her in the first season. It dies down, though, and she becomes a lot more likable.

Apropos of nothing, it was sixteen years ago today on 2/22/1993 that "The Gathering" was telecast.

Happy Birthday, B5!

As a recent viewer of B5, you can look back at two or three posts I made when I first started watching it. It was seriously a piece of garbage, and I said as much. But it gets like a billion times better with Sheridan in it.

I must announce with great sadness that last night I reached the end of Babylon 5.

What a great show that was, a few spotty patches but overall it was magnificent. I know that comparisons to Trek don't go over too well here, so instead of comparing i'll just say that I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than any Trek except DS9. It was a true opus.

Great last episode as well, very well done.

Now I just have a couple of movies left, I watched in the Beginning already, I think I might shelve the other movies for a while so I have something to look forward to.

So many scifi series get lost towards the end and head into a nose dive. B5, Andromeda, Earth Final Conflict, Farscape. B5 is one of the very few of those to pull up at the end and have a good landing.

^Farscape took a nosedive at the end? They had a few rough episodes in the beginning of the last season, but the last half of Season 4 is awesome (some of the best the show has ever done), as is the mini "The Peacekeeper Wars."

That's probably a really good idea actually. The other movies + Crusade will probably come off better if viewed at a remove from the series proper.

If you're enjoying it through the first and early part of the second season, hang in. If, on the other hand, by that point you're waiting for it to get better or you're thinking that there will be a worthwhile payoff to the metaplot, bail and put the sucker on ebay.

I haven't updated this in a while, so I'll just say I'm now up to episode 7 of Season 3 "Exogenesis"
Well as of writing I've only seen half the episode so far.

It's definitely improved an awful lot, and the theme tune to Season 3 is just uber-awesome. Although the "turning heads" thing some of the actors do in the opening credits just makes me laugh as its like something out of a 80s soap opera

btw what happened to Na'Toth, maybe I missed something?

I like the way Warren Keffer just appeared out of nowhere in Season 2 as "one of the guys", then got suitably blown away by the end. Ha, he was alright though

Also, way back in (I think) episode 2 of Season 2 there's a scene with Sheridan talking to President Clark on the vidcom, and in the background I totally noticed a tenticle or something behind Clark. I'm guessing that that's plays a part later... (no spoilers though thanks)

This remains the only episode I haven't seen. I feel asleep about 5 minutes into it the first time I tried.

From what I understand, JMS didn't like the new actress in Season 2, so she stopped being around. However, Na'Toth does eventually pop up again.

There's no mysterious tentacle behind President Clark, lol :D What episode would this have been in ? 2X2 "Revelations"? But yeah all the episodes after "Exegesis" are the high point of the show. Well there's a few standalones but aside from that.
