Test Screenings?

Have they had any test screenings out in LA (or anywhere else)? If yes, how have they gone? Anyone hear how the movie has tested?

When Abrams showed it to the Paramount Suits last year, what he showed them was good enough to get them to move it to a summer tentpole.

I'm aware of the (partial?) screening for Paramount execs last August, the press tour screenings in November and December and a few private screenings (Kevin Smith, etc.) but I've heard of no test screenings for members of the general public yet.

Would they bother with test screenings for the public? In the internet age it'd be way too hard to control what information gets leaked.

^True, I may be behind the times. I know they still do test screenings for tv shows - maybe they don't do it anymore for movies because of the reasons you stated.

I'm sure that in the next month there will be a number of preview screenings, and we'll inevitably hear some storyline leaks out of those. Whether they would be considered "test screenings" is another matter, since the point of such is generally to enable the filmmakers to identify problems and make changes before the film is considered final. That might happen in this case, but is extremely unlikely. The movie's pretty much locked.

Exactly. With a big movie like this, especially one with which The Suits feel confident about its quality and success, there certainly will be preview screenings for the press and other folks, but I think a true test screening is unlikely.

It's too late to add much. More likely they'd make cuts. How about we just go with the director's gut instinct for a change? Star Trek by Committee kinda scares me.

If the preview screenings were disastrous, one can imagine them cutting the movie substantially for time. That's not in the cards. ;)

The movie has been completed and locked for 3 months now.
If they were to add or cut or test screen they would have done so. And we would more than likely have heard about it.
They wouldn't wait a month and a half before the premiere to do it.

But as others have said I'm sure that soon there will be screenings for the press, critics etc

When I was asked if I wanted to review anything else the first words were "Star Trek... May." so hopefully I'll be on the preview list. And I kept any excitement to a minimum

On May 8th and for quite some time thereafter no one will be reading your book - we'll all be at the movies.

"The suits" of course, being ultimately responsible for the investment and go/no go on every bit of Trek you've ever seen on screen. :)

Hell of a blog, by the way. You can almost taste the tears that were shed whilst writing it.

A test screening isn't the same as an advance screening for the critics, but whatever floats your boat.

Nothing to the tears of laughter that reading some of the political stuff evokes.

Back under your bridge, Troll!
You may have forgotten temporarily that you weren't in TNZ, but that sort of thing won't fly here. Please don't do that again.

Dennis, I'd just as soon we didn't have politics raised here, even indirectly; the canon disputes pertaining to the movie get ugly enough, as it is. And if April would refrain from making pronouncements about what
...means jack squat in my book.
...while prominently displaying a link to it in his signature, perhaps no one would be tempted to comment upon its contents. Who was out from under what bridge remains in question, it seems, but I don't wish to see any of it in here.

if there is anyone here connected with the film..
i would be happy to see a preview.
:)

maybe i want talk to much about how fug ugly some aspects of the bridge looks.
;)
