The only thing I've seen of Russell Brand are some recent commercials on Comedy Central in the last week or so advertising a stand-up show he was doing, and he already annoys the crap out of me.

I don't think it's that. He was already getting roles in American movies when that happened. So I think he's just gone with the way his career was going anyway. Not that it makes him any less of a git.

I love the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Love it mostly for the characters. The movies never took themselves too seriously. However I'll admit that the two sequels tried a little too hard to be epic.

For the fourth movie they need to have a simple story like the original.
