Russell Brand in "Pirates of the Caribbean IV"?

The only thing I've seen of Russell Brand are some recent commercials on Comedy Central in the last week or so advertising a stand-up show he was doing, and he already annoys the crap out of me.

My big fan-boy wish would be for Allison Mack to be cast as a lady pirate who has a history with Jack and eventually ends up siding with him and Barbosa.

Never happen, I know, but a guy can dream!

Why is Russell Brand suddenly everywhere? He was on Leno, Letterman, and Fallon all within the span of a week. Now this.

Good/new publicist probably.

Or alternatively... he's lost a lot of his UK jobs after some crass material made him a major controversy late last year, and has decided to concentrate on America, where no-one's heard about that.

I don't think it's that. He was already getting roles in American movies when that happened. So I think he's just gone with the way his career was going anyway. Not that it makes him any less of a git.

Frankly I find it difficult to find anything likable or funny about him. He's just very awkward.
He's an annoying git, is what he is. :p

I defer to your superior assessment. ;)

You guys across the pond can have him back. We don't want him. :)

He hosted some music awards on MTV and I didn't get the appeal. Though I think his being annoying is supposed to be part of it somehow.

^^ Well, Andy Dick has had a decent career.

I guess it's supposed to be "outrageous" but sometimes end up being "annoying". :)

Andy Dick. Good point.

I guess, acting-wise, you always need a good 'annoying' character actor. A couple of different friends have told me Brand was funny in 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall.' I have doubts.

He can be funny, and quite inventive in his stand up at times, but that doesn't make him any less of an annoying twat.

It's interesting how some comedians seem to be only funny when they do standup.

All I know is that Brand is annoying and didn't do anything funny when I saw him on Leno, Letterman, or Fallon.

You know what Pirates needs? Mermaids.

Combine that with the other guy's Allison Mack idea and we're golden!

I wonder who that works for?

That's kinda like Ali G's schtick. He supposed to be a contemptible idiot.

What controversy would that be?

I love the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Love it mostly for the characters. The movies never took themselves too seriously. However I'll admit that the two sequels tried a little too hard to be epic. ;)

For the fourth movie they need to have a simple story like the original.

What controversy would that be?

On his radio show he and Jonathan Ross made a series of prank calls to a "Beloved" character actor (Andrew Sachs of Faulty Towers fame) and began leaving answer machine messages telling him repeatedly how he shagged his granddaughter.
The tabloids made a huge thing out of it, blowing it out of all proportion and calling for his and Jonathan Ross' heads. Russell Brand apologised and quit. Jonathan Ross was suspended and he made apologies. It was pathetic, childish and not really funny, but it was ludicrous how the media went on about it.

That's it? From all the fuss I thought the guy ran over a little girl or something.

Is that what they're calling it these days? ;)
