Successful spinoffs?

Even though it broke the normal Jack Webb real world realism since the paramedics were LA County and not City Firefighters so either the cops or the paramedics were outside of their jurisdiction when they met. Afterwards when a cop was needed on Emergency it was always a LASD Deputy who normally wore a helmet in that era.

In the first season it was always LA County deputies, but later they had blue-uniformed officers with generic "POLICE" shoulder patches. Vince had apparently transferred to this new, unspecified agency.

What was the deal with the helmets, a vehicular safety thing? Whenever they turned on the siren, the paramedics put their helmets on. If a call got canceled, they turned the siren off and took the helmets off.

The generic police department can work since more cities contract with Los Angeles county for fire services then police services. The helmet? Perhaps it is like the cops who jack a round into their pistols as if the normally walk around with them unable to fire. Just a dramatic effect.

Does Mad About You/Seinfeld/Friends count?

Happy Days also spun off "Out of the Blue" a show featuring Chaci' guardian Angel.(Only die hard Happy Days fans will remember him)

M*A*S*H* loosely spun off Trapper John MD.

Grey's Anatomy spun off Private Practice

There's a never-ending debate as to whether or not The Prisoner is a spin-off of Danger Man/Secret Agent. Patrick McGoohan insists that Number 6 is not the same character as John Drake. But many of the fans and the show's other co-creator say otherwise.

Does Mad About You/Seinfeld/Friends count?

No. While there are some indications that the 3 shows share a universe, all 3 series were created independently of each other. (Actually, it's pretty easy to link Friends & Mad About You together since Friends frequently brought in Ursula, Phoebe's twin sister, who had already been established in a recurring role as the ditzy waitress on Mad About You. I think there was also a Friends episode where the gang was dealing with the blackout that was started on Mad About You when Ira was trying to help Paul & Jamie steal cable. On the other hand, there was never a Friends/Seinfeld crossover. There was a Mad About You episode in which we learn that Paul used to live in what is now Kramer's apartment. However, that's generally considered negated by a later Seinfeld episode where Susan refers to Mad About You as a TV show.)

704 Hauser was a bad show about a family with no affiliation with anyone from AitF or it's spinoffs, but they lived in Archie & Edith's old house.

Kinda like how I think the original house on Hangin' with Mr. Cooper was a redress of the old Growing Pains set?

There was also a season four "Emergency" episode that was intended to introduce a spin-off about LA County animal control officers that was called "905 Wild." Mark Harmon was in it, and long time character actor David Huddleston. IIRC veterinarian Huddleston had to talk Dr. Brackett through surgery on a baby goat over the phone.

David Huddleston as in the other Mr. Lebowski from The Big Lebowski?

Benson, spun off from Soap, lasted 7 years.

Trek's Rene Auberjonois and Ethan Phillips starred on that show, BTW.

Weren't the Naked Gun movies a spin off of a TV show? I think it was called Police Squad or something along those lines.

We Can Be Heroes led to Summer Heights High
What about shows that have region specific versions made, do they count as spin offs? If so then you'd get a lot of reality shows like Big Brother or Survivor, or things like The Office UK, US, etc
